If there isn't a specific need randomly supplementing the diet is a bad idea. Too much of some nutrient is as bad as too little.

My family has owned quite a few rotties in my life and I'm nearly 100% positive that he's not purebred. His coat is waaaaaaaaaay too fuzzy and long. When a dog is newly in rescue, they're usually not checked. When Fifty's foster home gets to know him a bit better I'm sure they will be.
