Re: too skinny?

He doesn't look skinny to me, my AST is between 60 and 65 lbs depending on the season.

3.5 cups seems like a lot to feed too, we feed 2.5 cups a day.

He is very handsome

Re: Tick prevention

Frontline Plus still seems to work fine here (PA - LOTS of ticks/Lyme in our area). I still find ticks, but they're dead. I did a trial of Certifect (Frontline + low dose Amitraz) last fall, and while I did notice more of an odor and it's a bigger volume than Frontline, I would use it again if I fe...

Re: Sadie isn't well

Wow, just saw this thread... held my breath through the whole thing until I saw she is feeling better. That is the ONE major thing that terrifies me about the breeds, they are so stoic and hide pain so well. I always feel if Rocky is a little "off" that it could be a sign of major pain. So...

Re: Tick prevention

we are in the lyme disease CAPITAL of the USA.... really our county in Virgina (Loudoun County) is #1 nationwide for Lyme Disease. YHEAAA! Anyways, the ONLY thing that seems to work for us is K9 Advantix, before we started using that we would still pick ticks off him in the spring, summer and fall. ...

Re: does your dog ever lose its balance for no reason?

In the first video at 8 seconds the way her front foot doesn't land properly but rather is curled ... I've seen that on vet shows when they are doing neuro exams and I know it's one of those signs they look for with a neuro problem (more specific then that, I don't know though). I think it's someth...

Re: does your dog ever lose its balance for no reason?

Thanks!! So I 'thought' my vet wasn't totally UP on Ataxia based on her response yesterday and when she called today, she said she had looked it up. (good for her). Her thoughts were that Ruby was unlikely to have received the double (bb?) gene so she didn't think it was worth testing for. That mak...

Re: does your dog ever lose its balance for no reason?

here is a link about ordering the test: http://www.optigen.com/opt9_cerebellarataxia_amstaff.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and as a side note, I am not trying to freak you out, there are so many other less serious things it could be and fingers crossed it is something minor. I ...

Re: does your dog ever lose its balance for no reason?

fingers crossed for you! i hope it was nothing just a passing thing. Hoping for good news Ruby!! side note i don't understand your vets reasoning to not find out if the dog is a carrier of something like ataxia because the dog is spayed . ^ yeah, I know...??? I pushed it TWICE and then deferred to ...

Re: does your dog ever lose its balance for no reason?

What other breeds are affected? I need to do some research. I am not sure, I have only heard about it in Amstaffs I have chosen not to test Rocky since it is an uncurable disease (and obviously we will not be breeding him) so I am not sure I want to know if he is a carrier (that might turn affected...

Re: does your dog ever lose its balance for no reason?

Definitely ask about Ataxia, I have mentioned it to my vet before and she seemed to know nothing about it in the breed, I dont think there is a lot of common knowledge about it in this country compared to europe. It is a blood test to see if the dog is a carrier and/or affected with the genetic dise...

Ataxia is a symptom, not a disease, just to clarify. :-)

no it is a disease, and very prevalent in the Amstaff breed, reputable breeders now test for it before breeding

Re: Allergens in the fall?

Just throwing in my 2 cents...August til frost is Veronica's hell also...even with her allergy shots. The shots keep her from getting hivey, but she is still itchy as hell! Yeppers! us to, Rocky's bad allergy time is August to November - he gets hives but doesn't really scratch that much. I think i...

Thanks, And welcome yourself :) figured it was pre drama, I wasn't aware he ever went back to see the litter but thanks, I will have to ask my now ex.
