Re: My skinny shepherd mix (for msvette)

"Doesn't mommy feed you?" Um, yes. Yes, I do. I used to walk a fit Greyhound and would get this question a lot. Finally, I stopped being nice and just started smiling benignly and politely telling them that he was on an all-air, all-the-time diet. It was worth it for the looks. I'm no exp...

Re: Question About Foods

Excess heavy metals can certainly affect a dog, just like it can humans. Being a different species does not preclude being prone to similar diseases. As far as fish are concerned, I would imagine mercury would perhaps be the most pressing issue - it's a natural metal that has increased in our oceans...

Re:

Orally, for skin issues? I never would have thought! When you say it works for Mina, what does it do for her? Does she have red itchy skin at times too? Mina's yeast infections manifest as tear stains, "pinkish toe nails" and her paw hair turning pinkish as well. THankfully she doesn't ge...

Re: Apple Cider Vinegar on red, irritated paws?

Instead of topical application, you can help clear up yeast infections by giving her apple cider vinegar orally. Mina gets between 1-2 tbs daily, though I don't know if that is standard. It is what works for Mina, though. :) I suppose you could do a mixture of apple cider vinegar, water, aloe vera a...

Re: Fish oil suppliment

Not to highjack the thread but I have a couple of questions. Dexter has been shedding like a freak all summer and has had a really dry coat. I got some awesome organic shampoo and conditioner and have used it a couple of times. It leaves his coat soft for about a month. He's on Kirkland food and I ...

Re: Dog food for blue pit

this may sound ignorant but will feeding them raw meat effect the temperment? Will they one day realize there is no defferance between the raw food and the lil dog we have? You know once they get a taste for blood they become thirsty for it! roflmao (that last part was just a joke Im not that dumb)...

Re: Squatting and whining

Could be impacted anal glands, which can be quite uncomfortable. A vet will be able to ascertain whether that is the case and express them or if something else is wrong.

I'm so glad to read Jesse is on the road to recovery. That must have been heart-wrenching scary. I so hope it never happens again.

Re: How long does a spay take to heal?

great! well ill just wait till she has to go then:) i cannot see the sutures.........should i be able to? Some veterinarians suture internally (these absorb) and then use a type of glue for closing the skin flaps. So it's possible not to see sutures. It would not hurt to call your vet and ask what ...

Re: questions about spaying and avatars

My 11-yr-old female was spayed at 3-yrs of age, after having a few litters. She lifts her leg to mark. So no, spaying before the first heat isn't an automatic "she will lift her leg" (that is just territorial marking and is exhibited by dogs of all ages and intact status). And females can ...

Re: Just a Reminder:

Good reminder. People can mitigate heat exhaustion concerns by being well prepared with a doggy hiking kit. On really hot days, I actually do include a "dogs only" thermometer along with water/bowl and alcohol pads. Some folks carry towels that they can soak in water and drape on the dog's...

Re: Raw Feeder Survey Results

One of the questions that comes to mind is about the dogs who broke teeth - were they fed weight bearing bones? were they high drive dogs that could have fractured teeth doing other activities? which teeth were most likely fractured? (I'm betting that the majority of teeth issues were on the back m...
