Re: Portsmouth NH/Portland ME area??

Oh, and one thing that helped me when I was waiting for my appointment to take Roscoe's staples out after his peach pit ingestion incident last year was giving him bits of string cheese to distract him from the other dogs and whatnot. He is nuts for string cheese, so if there is something your dog i...

Re: Portsmouth NH/Portland ME area??

Is Hillsmouth New Hampshire anywhere near you? I was just wondering if the folks at Peace and Paws rescue would be of any help. The only other things I can think of are to give him a bunch of calming supplements and try a DAP collar when you take him in.

Re: food to promote a solid/hard stool ?

Canned pumpkin can help, just a tablespoon, and be sure you don't get the pie filling. I think I would just try a different food though. Check dogfoodadvisor.com and get a four or five star rated food.

I wouldn't leave them alone together. It doesn't take much to start a fight sometimes.

Sometimes they get cysts in between their toes, but I'm sure your vet would have thought of that.

Re: Best couch/sofa material?

We have two crypton-like fabric sofas from Flexsteel, and they have been really easy to keep clean, despite being barfed on occasionally. We keep fleece blankets on them for an extra layer between them and the dog fur and what not, but anything that gets past them cleans up really well.

You could try DES first, it works for some dogs. Might be worth a try.

Re: Building up my rescue dog's immune system

X2on the small amount to start with! Two out of my three dogs were fine, but Austin has a really sensitive stomach and even with one pump, it was like poo-Apoocolypse here. He's fine now with two pumps. I've been getting the gallon size of pollock oil from Amazon because it's a bit less expensive, a...

Re: Mosquitos = My poor Chloe and Keyser!

The bugs have been awful here too, in northern lower Michigan. The first thing I can think of is to just not let them stay outside for any length of time besides going potty and going for walks, which you probably are already doing that but I just thought I would mention it just in case. We treat ou...

Re: Need some help.

Do they look like the bully bumps on this page? If they do you could try Benadryl, otherwise I would go to the vet.

Re: Degenerative Myelopathy

Some people get their dogs carts so that they can still get around. Have they had x-rays on his spine to make sure it's not arthritis causing the symptoms? Boxers are known for that as well as DM. Are they on a boxer forum, they usually have people who have been through it.

Re: Degenerative Myelopathy

Usually it's more middle aged dogs that get this. It's a neurological disease that progressively moves up the spine making it difficult for the dog to walk. It has pretty close to the same effect that having arthritis in the spine does, like my boxer had.

Re: Brushes

We use a zoom groom on ours. Places like Petsmart usually have them or Amazon has them too. Kong makes them. We use an undercoat rake on our malamutt, who has lots of fur, but pitbulls don't need them.

Re: Fish Oil

I've had good luck with Grizzly, either salmon or pollock. I used to use the salmon but I noticed the pollock was less expensive so I switched to that. I get it from Amazon.
