Re: Mast Cell Tumors : Lessons Learned

:) :) :) Horace's second surgery went perfectly and his biopsy came i clean as a whistle. The oncological surgeon changed her game plan once she saw what was going on inside Horace, so instead of going up and taking his ear off, she went down and took just a bite from his ear, instead cut a lot of s...

Re: OFFICIAL ear cropping/tail docking debate thread

My Horace has to have an ear amputated. It's an 'aggressive' attack on what's left of a mast cell tumor. So he'll get a crop on one ear. I CANNOT imagine that any of the surgeons at the vet-specialist practice would take a dog's ear for any reason other than to protect his health. They won't take th...

Re: Mast Cell Tumors : Lessons Learned

Thanks, Tiva. Horace's mitotic index was extremely low, too, 0-1 per 10 power fields. The oncologist recommended further pathology to see if the tumor cells exhibited a genetic mutation that would cause the cancer to behave aggressively despite the 'good' indicators, so we did c-kit testing. No evid...

Biopsy came back Grade 2 MCT with dirty margins. On to the oncologist's office next.

Re: Mast Cell Tumors : Lessons Learned

For anyone who remembers Horace, he's having surgery and then a biopsy in Tuesday. I'm grateful PBF put this all together in one place. His rumors in a crap place if it's bad.

chihuahua food?

Kay, so, my bff just took a snowshoe siamese and a little bitty 6-month chihuahua puppy away from his drunk-a$$ violent nephew. He's good with the cat (has 23 in his multi-million Manhattan river-view apt., but you'd never know it since it's the cleanest house I've ever seen), but hasn't had a dog s...

Now that I have arrived in North Carolina with Horace and his hives, I think we'll be visiting the NC State Veterinary School allergy/dermatitis clinic. They said I can expect to spend about 300-500 dollars finding out what Horace is allergic to and getting him treated. So right now I'm just waiting...

My Hazel had mange, too. It is very common in young, poorly bred pitbulls. I had to give her about 5 or 6 mitaban dips and I also had to shave her head when her hair started growing back and wash her scalp with a special shampoo that flushes out the hair follicles. I think it was called Benzoil. The...
