Re: Past-date kibble
The official response from Merrick is "Since we use all natural ingredients, we do not recommend feeding any food past its expiration date." Ok. So I asked them why a store employee told me that the manufacturer sends out past-date food to be cleared out and that the food was good 8 months...

Re: Past-date kibble
They're very arbitrary, which is why I tend not to observe them for myself, but certain things last longer than others. Milk can most definitely last a week or two after the date, depending on the fat content, the temperature of the fridge, etc. Eggs can go longer than that. Boxed mac & cheese? ...

Past-date kibble
I have fed food a month or so past its "Best By" date. I recognize that "Best By" is not the same as "Expiration," and even then, I will push expiration dates on my OWN food. I trust my nose better than ink to tell me when my milk is no longer safe, eggs are good for ab...

Re: Flint, Michigan
Wanted to update this. A local bully breed rescue and an animal advocate lawyer met with the councilman and seem to have talked some sense into him. http://www.mlive.com/news/flint/index.s ... ce_tw.html

Localized hair loss... mange or other?
These are not great pictures. I took them from my property line, because my neighbors do hate me enough to call the police if other neighbors were willing to tell them I stepped on their property. It didn't help that he was SO excited to see me he stood still all of once. I have never dealt with man...

Re: Chain link backyard fencing solution for DA dog
Definitely tether. I bought a house with the acre backyard fenced in, thinking it would be fantastic for my dogs. It was, until my pit bull mix discovered one day - whilst chasing a small critter - that she could clear the chainlink fence and then explore the neighborhood until I managed to catch up...

Re: Keeping a diaper on?
If they made onsies that big, I'd suggest the same. One of my grooming clients is a paralyzed dachshund, and his mom uses a onsie to keep his diaper on. Otherwise, I think clipping it to a harness sounds like a good idea. Also, the head of a local rescue has to use baby diapers on her dog without a ...

Re: Happy Tail
I'm so happy to hear Oscar is feeling better, even if that doesn't mean everything's going to be ok (yet). Watching this thread makes me ill with how unfair life can be. It's stuff like this that prevents me from being good with people, because I just can't find it in me to empathize with the proble...

Re: confused about rice and potatoes.
If you can find someone who carries it, look at Victor dog food. I've only heard fantastic things about it; I just switched my kids, so I can't give feedback myself. Their grain free version has sweet potatoes (not sure if you're opposed to them as much as white potatoes). but (obviously) no rice. h...

Re: Blue Buffalo- Recall
I don't know that there's been an actual recall, but there are a LOT of issues being noted on the internet about it causing severe vomiting and diarrhea, and I've read in more than one spot that the company may have been sold some time ago (but I can't find anything official-looking that says so). ...

Re: Victor Dog Food
I just figured out that the parent company does make cat food (Mers brand - never heard of it, but I'd never heard of Victor til a couple weeks ago), so I am going to see if I can get that, too. Too excited.
