ECR = Extracapsular Repair this is the "original" type of cruciate surgery where they go in and repair with either a tissue graft (if there is enough healthy ligament left) or what is basically fishing line. This is the procedure most regular vets do TPLO = tibial plataeu leveling osteoto...

I know it's been a long time since I've posted but I figured I would update you all on Beau. The knee surgery was a huge success. It healed up well, he uses both legs equally and has recovered all of the muscle mass. He can run, pivot, turn and jump almost as well as he used to be able to. He can't ...

Had our appointment this morning, he got the clean bill of health! :peace: Ultimately, the reason that I got spooked was because I remember when I picked him up on the day of his surgery and I asked "So does he have to come back to have these stitches taken out, or what?" and they said &qu...

I just got my call back from the vet. The lady said that what I am seeing is just the stitching coming through. She said it's fairly common for that to happen once it has been healing for a while and that there is nothing to worry about. When I take him in tomorrow morning, they will clip off the ex...

Well, everything had been going really well with Beau until a week and a half or so ago. All of a sudden, he popped a red spot on his incision. I thought this was very weird since it had been healing with no redness for a month or so. It healed up quickly so I didn't think much of it. I assumed that...

Checkup on Wednesday went great. It had been 9 days since surgery but he is doing so well that they had my bump him up to the 2-3 week rehab level. So we're taking 5-10 minute walks a couple times a day, doing range of motion exercises more, etc. The incision is looking pretty damn good and is heali...

I thought Beau had Addison's for a long time. When he was 1 or so, he had a couple seizures so I took him to the vet. They did a "general blood screening" and the vet said it looked like a 99.9% chance he had Addison's but they would have to give him the special stim test to find out for s...

I did some research and found a few "Dog Surgery FAQs" online and they say that it is not uncommon for a dog to not eat normally for a few days after surgery, especially if it is just kibble (which in my case, it is) so I'm not as worried now. It would be a different story if I dangled a n...

Well, Beau's doing pretty well so far. My biggest concern is his lack of appetite. He hasn't touched regular kibble since he returned home. After 24 hours or so of not eating anything (other than the cheese I hide his pills in) I cooked up some meat I had in the freezer and he scarfed that down like...

Re: 400...plus.. dollars later.

I went to school and iced my hand but on the way home I swung by the doctor just incase. They flipped, gave me a tetanis shot and antibiotics, even if its your cat and shes inside and vaccinated cats are dirty beasts I suppose. My uncle has several cats. One of them scratched him on the foot. It en...

My experience with seizures is that they basically go right back to normal once the seizure is over. They don't even really know they are having the seizure for the most part so I personally would not point towards a seizure as the cause of extended periods of odd behavior. That's just me though, do...

Beau is home and doing well! I picked him up after work on Tuesday and then worked from home yesterday so that I could stay with him for the day. I'm back to work today so he is home alone in his crate at the moment but everything is going well. He's sleeping a lot and is coping very well. While he ...

Busy, busy morning at work and before I knew it my phone was ringing. Surgery is done and Beau is "slowly waking up" as they put it from the anesthesia right now. They said I could come in whenever today to visit him if I want to, but I am just going to wait until I go to pick him up tomor...

Re: Luce blew her other knee

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH She had her right cruciate ligament repair (suture-style repair) six months ago yesterday. She came up three-legged lame yesterday afternoon. At least she waited until the right one was pretty well healed. But Argh! My poor puppy. She was so ouchie and woeful last night. Please sen...
