Re: Mast Cell Tumors : Lessons Learned

I'm crying as I type this. It looks like Isabeau has at least 3 more MCTs. I found two on the underside of her ribcage, and what looks like a very angry one on her vulva, and possibly a 4th one on the front of her neck. I haven't been to the vet yet, as I just found them tonight. I'm dreading taking...

:inlove: I LOVE Hooch! His wrinkly face does remind me of a Dogue. I wish I was in the market for another dog. I loooove Dogue De Bordeauxs, and hope to get one once I purchase a house someday. I hope he finds a great adopter!

Re: Purdue Vaccine Study

Vets in my area require yearly vaccines, as do the boarding kennels. Given that Isabeau has recently had Mast Cell Tumors, and my French Bulldog is prone to allergic reactions, I really don't have any desire to vaccinate them. I'm going to have to make a decision next time I go out of town and have ...

Re: Dirty Dirty Ear or something more?

Ear mites are extremely uncommon in dogs... In fact I've never seen ear mites in dogs. As a general rule, if you need to clean ears more than once a week or there is itching, head shaking, redness, excessive wax or odor you should see your vet for a probable ear infection. Really? It's been very co...

Re: Dirty Dirty Ear or something more?

If it's very dark, almost a dirt-like substance...then it sounds like he has ear mites. When dogs have ear mites, you could literally clean the ear every day, and it would still be dirty. I would definitely make an appointment at the vet to get it properly diagnosed and treated.

Re: bruno has to have a lump removed, im so worried.

I think there's also a sticky about MCTs that you may find helpful. Are MCTs common in dogs in general, or do they just seem to be common with pit bulls? It does seem like almost everyone here has dealt with it. They are common in bully breeds, Boxers, Boston Terriers, and Golden Retrievers, but ca...

Re: bruno has to have a lump removed, im so worried.

Earlier this year, my dog had a MCT removed, then less than two weeks later, another popped up in a new location. So she had a second surgery. I think it's been about 6 weeks or so now...I'm not really keeping count. So far, no more new MCTs. That being said, a lot of dogs have them removed and neve...

Re: Isabeau gagging/swallowing/snoring...?

Her MCTs were removed from her side and hip area. Once again, she's been acting normal since we woke up. She's not doing any of the swallowing/gagging stuff and ate her breakfast and seems perfectly normal. She went out to the bathroom and is still having normal stools and urination. She's asleep no...

Isabeau gagging/swallowing/snoring...?

I wasn't quite sure what to title this thread as. Isabeau has recently had Mast Cell Tumors removed, but has been doing okay. Her incisions all healed up, and I haven't seen any new tumors. I have no idea if this new behavior could be related, but just wanted to give a bit of her recent medical hist...

Re: Dozer's Vet Visit- not good

So i've read and I can't seem to find anywhere where it says what type of cancer this is? Is it Mast Cell? If so, what is the mitotic index? If it's zero, then that means the cells aren't dividing...which means it's not spreading. If it were my dog, and the original growth had been there for a while...

Re: Garlic for dogs?

I give my dogs brewer's yeast & garlic tablets for flea control. Not sure how much garlic is actually in the tablets. I've been using them for probably 3 years now, not one of the dogs have ever had a flea problem. I think garlic in moderation, isn't going to cause any problems.

Re: Tick control for hairless dog?

I second the Preventic collar. When I worked in a vet hospital, we used to prescribe those to dogs that lived in heavily tick-infested areas. Sometimes the topicals weren't cutting it, so they would use a Preventic collar along with a topical treatment. They seemed to work very well.

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

Its also possible she's having a suture reaction... since both incisions are acting funky... Well, you may be right. The vet thinks that it may be the suture trying to come up and surface through the skin. He doesn't seem to think it's the MCT coming back. It reacts just like an MCT...if I run my t...

Re: Had the vet look at Isabeau's growth...

Well... last night I looked at the incision from her first MCT removal, and it now looks like the MCT is growing back, in the exact same spot it was in (I even compared it to the pictures). They got clean margins, but the margins weren't very big, because at that point we didn't know it was a MCT. I...
