Re: Separation Anxiety

Well, Leo was quite anxious when he first got here, but with some training he is a lot more comfortable when she leaves. He didn't whine at all today. She left and came back frequently so he could get used to it, and we are on a good schedule. Hopefully he continues to adjust :)

Re: Separation Anxiety

I'm not sure if this falls into the separation anxiety category, but maybe someone can help without starting a thread. So due to very unfortunate circumstances my fiancee and I have been without our dog for 3 months. He never showed any signs of SA in the past. We were able to leave him home alone o...

Re: Seen on an "About us" page ... please discuss...

Whoever wrote that definitely could have been more clear about their training philosophy. Force-free seems like it could be interpreted in so many ways. I have my dog do some tricks or sit-stay for a little before he eats. That could technically fall into the forced category, as the dog is being for...

Re: cant keep dogs of furniture

We had this issue for a long time, and I read some advice from someone, I forget who. Maybe it was on here. Anyway, he knew not to go on the furniture when we were home, but we would come home sometimes and see him sliding off the couch. Then of course he had his cute guilty face on when we went int...

3 months Separation From Dog - Advice?

So long story short, I took a big fall on vacation in Italy in June, and tore like everything in my knee. It cut the vacation short, had a big surgery, am now recovering. It was a 5 week vacation, and our friends who are also our current renters were gladly taking care of Leo. My fiancee and I felt ...

Re: OFFICIAL e-collar debate thread

I posted this thread earlier since I started using an E-Collar on Leo a long time ago and explained my thoughts on the E-collar after being talked into it from 2 trainers who were both extremely jolly and positive during the E-collar training sessions. I'm not coming back to say that I think they ar...

Re: OFFICIAL e-collar debate thread

Oh and I forgot to add, I don't use the e-collar for training tricks or things like that. It's not a substitute for a clicker. He does great with praise and treats for training new things.

Re: OFFICIAL e-collar debate thread

We were just advised to try the ecollar by our dog trainer after a few classes of trying other things. Our dog is dog aggressive/nervous/anxious around other dogs, and we originally started the class to get him around other dogs more and for some positive reinforcement training. We also started the ...

Re: B.A.R.F. 101

I have a question about raw marrow bones. We have been giving them to Leo often, and he has been licking all the marrow out, and then chewing on the bone nicely until he gets bored. However, the last few bones I gave him, he's been "shaving" little pieces off the bone with his teeth and ha...

Re: B.A.R.F. 101

This may not work for others, but thought I'd share. Leo didn't want much to do with kidneys when I tried to introduce them. Maybe the texture. I got some kelp powder which he loves, all over the kidney (just a couple small pieces of kidney) and he gobbled them up. I usually give kelp powder still, ...

Re: Sit Means Sit Method

Some friends of mine have had this method of training recommended to them by the local natural dogfood store. My first instinct was I didn't like the sound of it. Looking at the website http://www.sitmeanssit.com/dog-training/#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I still don't like the s...

Stay Away From Dog Treats With Wheat/Dyes

I wanted to post this for a while, sorry if this is old news to everyone on here, but I had a great vet experience lately and found out what has been causing these sores and skin irritations mainly on chin area that kept recurring. Our previous vet just prescribed us medication and never told us wha...

Re: B.A.R.F. 101

So I was tempted to get this beef tripe that the local market had by me, but is there a difference between beef tripe and "green" beef tripe? It's in the meat department, packaged by the market so I assume they get it fresh, but it doesn't say green tripe on the label, just beef tripe. It ...

Re: B.A.R.F. 101

Oh and 1 question. Since he is allergic to chicken, does that mean he will be allergic to eggs too? Is that a dumb question? Not necessarily. AND, he may not be allergic to grass/seed fed chickens vs corn fed. Also, check out Greentripe.com products!!! If you can get a group of raw feeders t...

Re: RAW feeding couple questions

ugh...meant to actually post a couple questions Is thawing and then refreezing bad, like it is for humans? or is it OK to do for them? What do you guy's feed for fish? I've thawed and refroze stuff before and haven't had any issues. Leo goes crazy for sardines in olive oil. Sometimes they have big ...
