Re: Pup comming of age, dog hierarchy change?

Yeah, I didnt know if hierarchy was really important with bull-type breeds. I was trying to understand what happened as best I could so that in the future I will be able to address issues before they get out of hand. You are right, it is hard to understand hierarchy as my older dog acts submissive t...

Re: Escape

In my situation, I tried for months to teach my pup to be in his pen. He would chew the pen, bend it all up, escape, pee in the pen, bark constantly, and be upset. I never was able to get him to be comfortable in there. So, I gave up on the pen idea. I think fear might play a part in escape attemts ...

Re: Pup comming of age, dog hierarchy change?

24 hours after the Flapjack Gozer altercation... With the aid of a helper, we took both dogs for a walk. They seemed a little strange in the beginning, but in about 5-10 minutes, the dogs seemed to be calm. We walked them for about 20 minutes and came home. We then waited about an hour and walked th...

Re: my dog gets aggressive when I try to clip his nails...

I will add my advise since I had a similar problem. My dog flapjack was terrified of getting her nails clipped. She would literally "scream", piss on me the floor anything else, poop herself, bite and claw. The vet I took her to, held her down and clipped one paw. I made them stop, told th...

Pup comming of age, dog hierarchy change?

I have 2 dogs. My older dog (maybe 5-6) is a female and the alpha dog. My younger dog is only 8-11 months old and is male. These dogs usually get along really good. They were able to eat out of the same bowl even. (not on purpose) They live with me at home and I am at home 24/7. They have lived toge...

Re: Is my dog gun shy?

It has been a bit of time since I posted this topic. I thought I would post an update. Well, My dog would get 'upset" when I shot a gun with her around. I was shooting a 22 rifle. Every time I would go to aim, she would bark and growl and run around and paw the ground her hair would stand up ec...

Re: 4month pup a tad weak

I was given a coupon from the pound (not a bad gesture almost free food) and didnt really know better. I picked it up because the lady working at petco said it was more "organic" then some others. I will search for better puppy foods on this forum. I am wondering if there is something spec...

Re: OFFICIAL e-collar debate thread

I have read this entire post from start to finish. (and all the links and things too). From what I get so far, It is seen as wrong by some to use these collars because it causes the dog physical pain. (in turn studdies suggest that mental and emotional pain results.. then unwanted behavior) Using th...

Re: 4month pup a tad weak

I live in the US in Erie Pennsylvania. He is currently eating Science Diet "natures best" "chicken and brown rice dinner" puppy. I would like to add that he would rather eat the adult dogs food. However, I feed him this puppy food. I also have been giving him a little deer meat a...

4month pup a tad weak

I have taken my 4 mo old pup to the vets twice allready. (blood work fine, orthopedic doc says no problems, ect) I have exercised him by walking him in the woods and snow for about a month now. (my attempt at resistance training) He has made improvement but I am concerned that it might not be enough...

Re: how to make a puppy go back to sleep at night

This worked for me with my pup. I got Gozer when he was 2-3 months old from a shelter. He is now 4 months old. I brought him to bed with me during the initial few days. I put a mat on the bed and kept placing him on it. The mat was placed so that Gozer could lay next to me. After about a week or so,...
