Re: Oral flea medication - anyone tried?

I've used Program for over 8 years, no problems - my jrt can't tolerate topicals.
I've tried Comfortis, but she won't touch the tablets - can't even hide it in a hot dog.

Re: Hip dysplasia

Adequan worked wonders for my jack russell. He was diagnosed at about one year - he was in a great deal of pain, given bi-weekly injections for 4 weeks - a bit expensive for us at the time, but well worth it. He lived for 14 years without any further problems.

Re: Plop, plop, poop

I empathize :( My jrt, Lily, had diarrhea (bloody often) for over 3 years - so many food experiments, so many vet visits. She was diagnosed with pancreatitis along with an a bowel disorder they couldn't really pin down. What works for her is pumpkin or sweet potatoes, organic grains such as steel cu...

Re: Allergic Reaction to Sting/Bite

When our jack russel first got bit, her hives were visible through her rough coat for 5 days. I took her to the vet the first day as I was unfamiliar with bug bite reactions. Her subsequent hives have lasted for 2 to 6 days, no vet visits. Sounds like you're doing the right thing, watching & ben...

Re: Bean has an ultrasound tomorrow

Hoping Bean is feeling better. Don't know his history, but our Lily suffered so many bouts of panc. and finally got her diet just right. She's been symptom free for 8 years. Hang in there.

Re: Prickly Heat?

My jack russel used to get those, vet said it could be a bug bite that caused an allergic reaction -- we gave her benedryl and then she just grew out of it.

Re: Pancreatitis

My jack russel has pancreatitis, several bouts till I got her diet dialed in. I have been cooking for them for 8 years (she's 14 now). Equal parts organic lean meats, brown rice or steel cut oats, green leafy veggies + healthy powder mix. When I can't cook, they all get Wellness kibble or stews. Not...

Re: What it looks like when they remove a nail

Otis split his nail two weeks ago. Poor boy was in agony. The vet cut it back, looks like Button's. I had no idea this could cause so much pain - he cried all night after the procedure. Lots of pampering and pain meds. http://pic90.picturetrail.com/VOL2239/12470473/22185478/402359569.jpg http://pic9...

Re: Melatonin

On vet's recommendation, I give 1 mg 3 to 4 nights a week to Otis. He has extreme anxiety when the sun goes down, appears to be quite afraid of creatures outside. The melatonin definitely calms him. I give it to him about an hour before dusk. No apparent side affects and he is rested and ready to pl...

Re: Heart Murmer questions

Thanks! Vet doesn't know about the weight loss. She did say she thought the murmer was a 2 or a 3, but that the weight loss made it all the more important to get a thorough exam.

Heart Murmer questions

Otis is (was) a very healthy and happy 4 year old. Last week he split a toenail, I took him to our vet and she discovered a heart murmer. He has lost 10 lbs since his last visit about one year ago. I feel terrible for not noticing the weight loss. He looks slim, but is eating well. I'm taking him to...
