Re: the choke debate

People that have truly intense dogs know that corrections short of hydrogen bombs don't in any way get their attention. What corrections do is agitate them and send them into defense and you just pushed them into a drive that is incompatible with obedience. This is what some handlers do on the prot...

Re: anyone rollerblade with their pitty?

Let me add here, I use one lease attached to his harness for him to pull and I have another in my hand attached to his collar that I can use to control him...although all control is largely by voice now. that's exactly how i trained for the bike and rollerblading. pull in the harness, get reminded ...

Re: Ceasar Milian

i have to say, i get the idea of dog parks. i know people who have used them daily for years to exercise their dogs, and also socicalize with other dog owners. i don't have a dog here that i could take to a dog park, but i do actually think it's a neat idea for the right dogs. of course, stupid owne...

Re: Prong on a 6 month old?

a prong collar shouldn't be used to just keep her from pulling/lunging of it's own volition while on walks. a prong collar is a training tool to be used/controlled by you. you should teach her to heel, sit, stay etc. and then use the prong to administer controlled, timed corrections for breaking whi...

Re: HA dog bit my friend

i think that you have to decide if you want to live with an insecure dog who is unpredictably aggressive in his responses. if you do, then you have extensive management ahead of you, to ensure the safety and lack or worry on the part of your friends and family whenever they visit.

Re: Need help with my pitbull,...

Firstly, he's a bit rough. He's very energetic and when he's excited he just doesnt know when to stop! he needs exercise for one. before i even attemtp to 'play' with my current pup after he's been put up for awhile, we go for a 1/2 mile leash walk. also, playtime needs to be controlled & inter...

Re: suggestions for working with a soft dog

it's her ability to stay focused and solid that I am looking to improve... I am very calm and assertive, and am working very hard on not becoming frustrated with her when she turns to wood. I did have one meltdown last week... i've been there - although i know that i didn't handle it as well as you...

Re: Raw Diets for Dogs with cancer

i would recommend the RAW diet. if nothing else, because it will (most likely) be a special meal for your guy if he's used to eating kibble. dogs won't always have much appetite when going through chemo, so anything you can do to get him to eat is a good thing.

I would expect any young dog to go after something like that.

ummmm... not me. not when "go after" means "bite," as has been evidenced in the case of this dog.
