Re: First anal gland problem 9yrs old..help?

Maybe another round of antibiotics is needed? My 11.5 year old rat terrier x started having the same kinds of issues just before christmas. Glands were expressed and he was put on a (too) short course (IMHO) of antibiotics, that nipped it for a bit, but it came back w/ in a couple weeks. We went bac...

Re: Has your dog ever donated blood?

Maizey Blue donates every two months at the NC State vet school. We began the screening process right after her first birthday, and she gave her first donation at 14 months. Maizey is VERY mellow, especially given her age, and no sedation is needed. She'll take whatever they give her as far as pokes...

Re: another skin issue (allergy?) on muzzle....

Thanks, Elliehanna - By muzzle, I mean the anatomical muzzle - the snout of my dog, if you will. Thankfully, we don't live in an area with BSL, so we've never had to put a "muzzle" on them, and my girls don't even wear collars at home because they use them to drag each other around in our ...

Re: another skin issue (allergy?) on muzzle....

I don't have great photos - she HATES the camera, so it's hard to get anything good of her. Lighting on these is not great, but it gives a general idea: Normal face, black muzzle: http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL1394/11725773/23227550/391535853.jpg Face with muzzle that is starting to pink out, ear...

Re: another skin issue (allergy?) on muzzle....

I've asked the vet more about her thoughts on where this is going, and she's thinking that Zoe may have lupus - discoid lupus erythematosus to be specific. It would also offer an explanation for the issues we had w/ her dew claws. Anyone have any experience with this? In my brief, non-veterinary edu...

another skin issue (allergy?) on muzzle....

Both of my pittie girls are proving to have some chronic (though thankfully not crazy serious) skin issues. This is the latest. Zoe's muzzle (area between lips and nose, wrapping around to the top of the nose) began losing pigmentation and looking kind of moist and painful towards the end of July - ...

Re: Dew Claws

All of my dogs (2 pit bulls, 2 rat terriers) came to me with their front dew claws (no one has rear), and 3 of the 4 have had no problem. One of my pitties had chronic infections in her dew claws that would make the nail fall off, and it was very painful and involved. We were never able to get the i...

Re: Oral Papillomas - pics included

Both of my girls had these when they were older puppies - just under a year old. I would say it took about a month for it to run its course, from when I first noticed the bumps to when they had shriveled up and fallen off. Scared me when my first dog got it, but I was told it was akin to chicken pox...

In an effort to publicize canine blood donation, Maizey's been written up in the Drs. Foster & Smith blog!

My girl is a blood donor!!

After about a month of screenings and what not, Maizey finally was cleared and gave her first blood donation today at North Carolina State University! I am so proud of her on a multitude of levels. It was NOT an easy donation, unfortunately - they had a hard time finding the vein and ultimately they...

Re: Weight loss at one year???

Zoe is about to be 2, and she dropped about 5 lbs after her first birthday to settle right around 50lbs, give or take a couple pounds dpeending on the time of day she's on the scale. Her body also changed - where she used to look like a tank, she's now got a much more fit figure. I was hoping for a ...

Here's a link to my post about Zoe's warts about a year ago, with photos of her warts when they were just starting. http://www.pitbullforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=122567" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They eventually got brown and crusty, like your picture seems to show, then fe...

Re: What is this??? Puppy Papilloma??

Both of my pitty girls have had puppy papilloma. Ugly, but for us it was a really minor issue. It was scary w/ my older pit bull, only because I'd never seen it before and had now clue why she was developing growths in and around her mouth. When my younger girl developed it, I knew what we were deal...

I had Roscoe's x-rays sent to an orthopedic vet at MSU, someone here recommended him. http://cvm.msu.edu/directory/dejardin" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Loic Dejardin. He saved my girl's leg, and treated her wonderfully. His bedside manner w/ the humans is n...

Re: running/walking crooked?!

So is the consensus that I should just wait this out a bit longer? The crooked run doesn't concern me as much as the gimpy walk that begins shortly after a run. I guess I need to try to take some video of her, to give a better idea. The limp (with it's varied leg, depending on the day) is pronounced...
