Re: First Aid Kit Ideas?

Great suggestions! Make sure your peroxide is fresh if you're using it to induce vomiting. Gas-ex isn't going to do much if you've got a true bloat- it won't make it into the stomach. Saline eye wash is a really good one and something I'll be adding to my kit, thanks! I've got.... Vetwrap Gauze roll...

Re: cooling jackets?

*Bump* hey guys, haven't been on here for a while, but with summer underway and my wussy dog hating the heat like he does, i need a second cooling jacket or collar to keep at his second home (plus someone - we don't know who it could have been- chewed up one of the clips on his swamp cooler, and i h...

Re: unlikely but possible rabies exposure

<< What is an off-hours drop box? that was me. :) i don't know about other states, but here in ct, the state lab has a drop box for after-hours submission of rabies test subjects. it's a refrigerated receptacle underneath the lab in a very spooky corner of the parking area. (i'm a vet tech and we c...

[quote="Misskiwi67"]Get the animal, put it in your refrigerator, and have it sent in for rabies testing tomorrow. quote] eew. i bet it's cold enough in new york to store it in your garage or somewhere outside instead of in your fridge! ;) (at least that's what i do this time of year when m...

Re: Chew Proof Beds?

harvey used to shred and eat any bedding i put in his crate. after LOTS and LOTS of trial and error (and puking, and pooping out stuffing) i found the duracrate.. i love it! it zip ties down so they can't pick it up to chew. if you keep it scotch garded, it holds up great. it's kind of a nighmare to...

Re: Flexi lead strong enough?

i loathe flexi leads. we don't allow them in our clinic at all (too many dogs wandering into the prep area while their oblivious owner is standing at the front desk). many of our e.clinic visits begin with "well, i had him on the flexi lead and... (fill in the blank with tales of rope burn, tan...

Re: It's Lymphoma Large Cell Type.

One of the best, and most painful things about this board is the way we see eachother's dogs through eachother's eyes, and we are able to fall in love with dogs we have never met. to know them in ways that we wouldn't know them even if we had met them. and to grieve for them right along with the peo...

Re: ignoring other dogs

so, how did you get your dogs to do that under major distraction? You don't get your dog to do that under major distraction. You get your dog 150% rock solid on it under no distraction, then add a small amount of distraction and get your dog 150% rock solid on it with that small distraction, then a...

Re: Booties/Shoes

now that you mention it, there's a product called Musher's Secret that's a "breathable wax barrier" that you apply to the pads. it's supposed to protect the feet, and according to the reviews i saw, a lot of people seem to have had success with it for ice and snow, as well as hot pavement....

Re: ignoring other dogs

OH- i forgot to mention- "watch" is what i use, but it didn't work with harvey, he was so anxious about the other dog that he COULD NOT sit still and focus on me. i taught him to target my hands with his nose and used that instead. i put him in a sit-stay and held my hand out in different ...

i love harvey's ruff wear float coat. it's the portage float coat, but they've since changed the design. http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l186/Shelboriah/FourthofJuly09Camping-LakeWillia-13.jpg harvey's buddy beckett has the newer design and he likes it just as much. http://i96.photobucket.com/albu...

Re: ignoring other dogs

Sounds to me you've moved a bit to fast. Have you tightened her obedience and taught the command "face" or something which demands the dog look you in the eyes? I suggest you work on this and then set her up with a friends dog across a foot ball field, command "face", slowly ove...

Re: Booties/Shoes

my former roommate bought ruff wear grip trex boots for her golden retriever. she really likes them (the owner, not the dog- i'm not sure how he feels about them, he never says.) i DO know how harvey felt about them when he tried them on.... http://i96.photobucket.com/albums/l186/Shelboriah/IMG00245...

Re: Dock diving questions

i asked if they thought i should let him use the stairs, but they said if i let him use the stairs to jump in, he wouldn't want to jump from the dock again, he'd just want to use the stairs. so we gave up and went for a rest. That is wrong. He needed to become comfortable with the water, pool, exit...
