Re: Puppy almost died today

So tonight I took him for a walk and we met up with one of his friends, a gorgeous part whippet bitch. And I'm not really sure what the CGC wants or how to train him out of normal healthy curiosity. Sure he was excited when we met. After a few minutes of us both reining in our dogs, they made a few...

Re: Puppy almost died today

Oh man! I don't blame the vets in any way. They couldn't have known that our pup would have had a reaction to the anesthetics. If anything they are giant freaking heroes for noticing it in time and getting him pulled through. It's now two days later and he's bursting the seams with energy and we're ...

Re: Puppy almost died today

Oh, and regarding where we're moving to, we'll be about 7 miles south of Walsenburg (southeast CO) when we move. At that point we'll be looking for a vet who not only does dogs and cats, but also chickens, goats, yaks and horses. If we have to deal with two separate vets (one for "normal pets&q...

Re: Puppy almost died today

That sucks. My vet office is great. I think they may be a little higher than some other vets in my area though. I was lucky that I also know some people in the area that go to other vets in the area that they are happy with so if I didn't like the office I would have had some other options. I'm not...

Re: Puppy almost died today

Sorry about your puppy. I'm just wondering if you don't trust your regular vet to do a neuter, why are they your vet? I personally wouldn't have a vet I didn't trust doing anything to my animals :dunno: Its a damn good question, and thank you for asking it. The answer is that this is the vet I've b...

Re: Puppy almost died today

Back from the vet and even had time for a short nap. Pretty much the only real sleep I've had in two days. After a frightening and groggy night -- shallow labored breathing, and about too weak to walk, our baby woke up this morning with almost his usual boisterous energy and giant appetite. We prett...

Re: Puppy almost died today

The SPCA here seems to be pretty good. As for the long wait ... they seem to do a spay/neuter drive every month or every several months or something. It just so happens that we misunderstood, and probably should have scheduled for another day. I wouldn't have minded paying a bit more if it meant no ...

Puppy almost died today

I didn't trust my regular vet to neuter the puppy. Too many reports that she was possibly responsible for botched surgeries or that she had her interns do the surgeries. And the care that I get when I'm there for shots and other checkups has been a bit lacking. Long waits even when I'm the first - o...

yeast from alergies can make an itchy butt too I should probably be more specific. Not itchy butt only. Itchy sides, itchy flanks, itchy all over. I feel sooo bad cause I don't know what to do for my baby to stop the itching! Right now he has a couple of meds including an antihistamine perscribed. ...

I also saw a video of a dog falling out of a moving car's open window and tumbling SEVERAL times on the ground. Maybe better to only 'crack' the window. It does sound like the OP is talking about a cracked window, not a full open one. Before I met my ex (so now we're talking 20 yrs ago) he found a ...

Last month when we checked, he had worms. We got worm meds for him and all the cats. Cost us a freaking fortune! Glad to know I can get worm meds online if needed again. Meanwhile, I had him tested for worms on today's visit, and negative, thank goodness. Since I CONSTANTLY check both him and the ca...

LOL oh geez, well this was not exactly the answer I wanted to hear. Two years of him being bitchy cause he can't get laid? ACK! I can certainly keep him indoors, prevent unwanted babies from happening, and in fact where we're moving to shortly, if he can even FIND another dog for a few hundred squar...

When to neuter? And how safe is it?

Our boy is 6 1/2 months now. The vet wanted to get him neutered at 6 months and can't WAIT for that to happen. She tells me "your vet says ..." The problem is that I don't trust my vet. Local blogs suggest that other dogs have had major surgery complications due to her allowing her interns...

Itchy butt!

Took the puppy to the vet today. Her diagnosis was allergic reaction to flea bites. Okay, I'm GLAD it wasn't some form of mange mites. Did a scraping and that was negative. But fleas? First off, he's on Frontline (just this month changed to a natural, herbal product - but the itching predates that. ...

Our first treadmill

Being as high energy as he is, a walk or two (or three or four) isn't enough to keep our sweet brat well occupied and tired. So a neighbor found a treadmill that someone was giving away and after a week or three of it sitting on our porch we FINALLY got it working. Having read so many threads and ar...
