More info: dominating by "humping"

Ginger is smaller but taller, natually slender and seems the least dominant - but then she acts like the "mommy", using humping to keep things "under control" if Rudy plays wildly in the house esp, when company is around,, Rudy does silly things to the cat (don't ask), etc. We do...

Friend for pit/exercise

We got a female ,Ginger, a skinny red long haired lab/pit mix from the shelter. She was driving us nuts because she was so active. The vet said, "get her a friend". We read it's important to when getting two dogs, to get a more dominant male and a smaller female and it has worked out for u...

Can you teach a pit to hunt?

A wildlife preserve doesn't allow hunting I meant to say Sleepy Creek Wild Life management area. Sleepy Creed has all kinds of birds, small mammals, deer and they actually stock black bear.

Slippery floors

The target systems sounds goods, I'll go through it. Boots or wax doesn't work because he doesn't actually "splay out" or slip. He suddenly gets this concerned look on his face and plops down on a slippery floor (not all the time), we snap him out of it with distraction or saying, heel! or...

Slippery floors

Yes this has been going on for awhile. The nursing home visits are positive and he still loves to go to the home, he would miss his "People" if he stopped. Except for the momentary slipping fear (which has happened in other places, like pet stores), he shows no signs of long term distress....

Slippery floor fear/therapy dog

We have a pit who has been a therapy dog for over a year. Everybody loves him and he can "wake up" people who are staring at nothing and are sad. Rudy seeks out them out, stands in front of them and stares intently into their eyes until he gets a response. Often someone who is unresponsive...

Homeowners insurance and pit bull ownership

We have homeowner's insurance, with a company that never asked about the breed of dog we had. Sort of "don't. ask, don't tell". When trying to get a better rate with several companies, they asked what kind of breed we had, we said pit bull and they said we can't insure our home because of ...

Barking

We got our pit from a shelter when he was one. Alot of people thought he was mute because he never barked. Now that Rudy is five he's doing alot of barking esp. out side at people/dogs, etc, near our fence. I talked about this before and someone mentioned when pits mature they bark more/start barking.

Howling in sleep

Seems like your dog is ok, our dogs bark in their sleep. The dog being sluggish or collapsing could be narcolepsy. The vet could test if this happens repeatedly. Our cat has epilepsy, common in dogs, we give her phenobarbital twice a day to stop her seizures (very rare in cats).

Pit alerting to passing out

My husband has brochitus, and several severe coughing spasms caused him to pass out for a few seconds. Our pit is alerting me, as or just before my husband goes out. When my husband fell out of the chair, Rudy ran over to him and stated licking his face. When Mark was laying on the couch and started...
