Re: Dog lunging on leash - aggressive or no?

I have this issue with Eris, but it's not aggressive. She's frustrated because she cannot interact with the dog so she barks and makes wookie noises to get the other dog's attention. She only lunges at other dogs on leashes. The behaviorist said that we try a couple things. Get your dog on leash and...

Re: Not eating food. Tried a different one and still not

How are you feeding him and how much are you feeding him? A lot of people who don't have a set feeding schedule for dogs tend to have issues with their dog eating consistently. We had to start feeding Eris twice a day. A cup at 1PM and a cup at 7PM. Also, has your dog been vomiting, biting his nails...

Re: Nobody is helping. (Pika? Or What?)

Put a bell on her collar. That way you hear her when she gets up. And maybe stage some counter training with you in a space she cannot see and doesn't know you are there - with a metal tin and pennies inside it that you throw (or have rigged so that you can make the noise without being there) when ...

Re: Energy work session-HIGHLY RECOMENDED!

This sounds like something I should work on.
Whenever I'm on a walk with them, I start off calm, but end up being slightly frustrated with myself because I can't always control them when I need to, which I know is bad communication with them.

Thank you for posting this. :inlove:

You may feel like a hippie, but sometimes, it may be the only way to get your point across.

Re: I behaved very bad

The only time I have done something like this was actually yesterday. lol First, something you should know about me: I hate hippies. Not people who are trying to actively do things to better the environment or take care of animals. I hate the people who run around in sarongs saying they have a spiri...

Re: Doesn't like grass?

I agree with Wego! When did this start? And how bad are allergies in your area? I live in a valley where the wind creates a circular pattern that blows pollen all over the place. :crybaby: For awhile, Eris would avoid going outside during the spring time. Now that it's turning into summer, she's bee...

p.s. Yeah, I know right? roflmao Most people can't even tell that she's a pit mix even though she's brindle. She LOOKS like a border collie now that she's older. Baby pictures would shock everyone who has ever met her. She was definitely a little pitbull potato blob with the cheeks and the worries e...

Re: JOBS

BC mix, eh? Lucky you. lol Let's see, there's Put Away Your Toys; there's Find The Keys. You can probably train Bark Twice Then Watch. The problem is that so many dog jobs require the more or less active participation of the handler. And if the handler had time to play with the dog all day, then th...

Re: Becoming a terror!

my dog also growls and backs up a little when I try to take her toy... but only when she is aggressively playing with them. That sounds like resource guarding. Do you practice NILF? http://www.pitbullforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=64327" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; You may wan...

Re: Becoming a terror!

Yep, be consistent with training. Your dog should know that he cannot get positive attention by barking at you. I have a husky who will literally "yell" "talk" or hold on to your legs with his mouth if you don't give him attention. (These were problems when we first got him) When...

Re: JOBS

Oh, I train her in 15 minute intervals when she gets up and starts sniffing around the house, but I still feel she NEEDS a job since barking at strangers outside is getting annoying. lol

JOBS

So our puppy, Eris, has given herself the job to guard the house by barking at every little noise that moves outside of our house. I posted about this awhile back and I want to address this in a different way other than trying to distract and reward her. Now that she's filling out (and after examini...

Re: Nobody is helping. (Pika? Or What?)

My beagle did this as a result of separation anxiety and boredom. We exercised her a lot, but not in the right way for her (nose work, finding things, etc) We had to treat her like a pup for about two years, crated every single waking moment that we didn't have our eyes on her and only her. She'd e...
