Re: Another dog death blamed on dog treats...

Sorry, did you guys miss the entire "pink slime" thing last month? Made in the USA doesn't mean much. Just look at what corporations are putting in people food. Ya think dog food is going to be better? It is probably safest to look for European, canadian or US made treats that are made by ...

Re: HELP- TUMORS... NEED ADVICE

I think the reason he may act strangely after the lumps have been aspirated is because they release histamines when manipulated which can make dogs feel not so great. They can be painful as well. It i best to avoid touching the lumps or messing with them unless it is necessary. He's very cute, I hop...

Re: Tick prevention

Yes, we have guineas and chickens on the way. I like the noise actually. It let's me know when I have to go out and run trespassers and poachers off the property;) We always had poultry on the farm until last year and that is when the tick population exploded here. Not sure if it is just progression...

I didn't say that it was, in fact I acknowledged that it is a chemical. and I'm not going to argue with you. I said what I needed to say. You're free to do as you wish.

Re: Tick prevention

Do you guys see a problem here? We're creating bugs that are immune to our chemicals. Adding more chemicals on top of old chemicals is only going to be effective for so long and at what cost to our animals and the ecosystems in which they swim and the water we drink? There doesn't seem to be an answ...

Re: Should we euthanize our pit bulls?

That is indeed a horrible and tragic turn of events. Not to rub salt into your wounds but as others have said, this happened because of human error. Why, may I ask, are you considering euthanasia? Is it because you are angry with the dogs involved? Because you are concerned for your, your wife's oth...

Re: New Proposed Law for War Dogs

Anyone interested in adopting an MWD can go to:
http://www.militaryworkingdogadoptions.com/

There are detailed instructions about the application, how to contact Lackland and what to say etc.

It's nice that some of these dogs will have happy endings to hard and often crappy lives.

Re: My Puppy has Parvo...

Sorry to hear about your pup. Sometimes there is just no preventing this and depending on the strain perhaps there is nothing you could have done besides make him as comfortable as possible.

Parvo

From what I understand, Parvo is in the environment. It lives and thrives in soil on the ground, in the country, in the city, everywhere. It is not something that one can really ever "get rid of" in an effective or realistic way. It is up to the dogs being bred, their breeders, vets and ow...

Re: Damien has heartworms. :(

You can also save a ton of money by buying Ivomec 1% injectible from a feed store or you can order it from Jeffers, Kvvet etc. and dosing on your own. You just draw out the right dose into your syringe, take off the needle and squirt the Ivomec into the back of your dog's mouth. I mix it with chicke...

Re: Paradoxical reaction to Xanax (alprazolam)

Anyone have a dog that's experienced a paradoxical reaction to Xanax? Today I learned that Button, apparently, is one of the small percentage of dogs that become extremely excited and hyper on the stuff ... he's taken it before, but I never remembered him having any negative response to it. Last ti...

Re: Question Regarding Shelters Partnering with Rescues

Thanks for the feedback. If anyone else has something to add in the future, please do so. I have an open request for partnership with a county HS in event of a large scale intake like a dog fighting bust or some such and am not sure how to handle it. Maybe contacting a lawyer is best but I'm not eve...

Question Regarding Shelters Partnering with Rescues

Ok. For those of you who run a rescue, do you have a working relationship with SPCA and Humane Societies or do you do more grass roots rescues only? If you do partner with an SPCA or HS, what exactly does this entail? Who pays for what? Are animals vetted and sneutered before they get to you? Who de...

Re: Immune system supplements?

To pay that kind of money, I would go with something with an actual track record that is available through holistic vets.
