Re: IMHA and ITP

I wanted to update this post as many of you had been so helpful in sending prayers and positive thoughts. Koda has been fighting this disease for just over a year now. He is alive and currently stable! It has been one hell of a ride to get to this point. I know many other owners are faced with this ...

Re: IMHA and ITP

Koda was doing so well that the vet thought he didn't need to have another CBC for 10 days. Went yesterday and found a couple of things. His PCV has gone up from 30% to 34% - awesome! However, his white blood cells are back up and his platelets went from 418,000 to 9,000. Initially, they vet thought...

Re: IMHA and ITP

Just got the results from this week's CBC - platelets are normal, white blood cells are normal, and his PCV is up to 30%! :yipee:

Re: IMHA and ITP

Miss kiwi, that's what his vet said too, so I'm happy someone else has mentioned it as well. He seems to be holding steady, but I don't consider this a safe situation by any means. He's still under close supervision. He has developed 2 recent behaviors though that were abnormal for him. I was hoping...

Re: IMHA and ITP

He's had a good few days and we had our CBC this morning. His platelets have gone from 13,000 to 418,000 in a week! However, his PCV is still at 20% and he has quite a few neutrophils now, which hasn't happened before. We are going to continue to monitor him and do another CBC next Thursday. Thank y...

Re: IMHA and ITP

Everything on the big tick panel came back negative, so that is a relief. He's been on the cyclosporine for 4 days now; just started giving it twice a day yesterday. With the Carafate and Cerenia, he's able to keep it down. We go back in on Thursday for another CBC. Overall, he seems stable. Yesterd...

Re: IMHA and ITP

Red, I am so sorry... I went back and read some of your posts. I am truly so sorry. We are waiting to do another CBC until Monday to give the cyclosporine a chance to work. However, if I feel that he isn't doing well, I will take him to the emergency vet again. They didn't charge me the normal emerg...

Re: IMHA and ITP

She mentioned it today but felt that cyclosporine was a better fit for him. We've got carafate and cerenia as an attempt to keep him stomach settled. If it doesn't work, we'll go to azathioprine.

Re: IMHA and ITP

So far, he hasn't tolerated the Cyclosporine. The vet is giving us Carafate and we'll try the cyclosporine again tomorrow

Re: IMHA and ITP

Thank you. I really appreciate everyone's prayers and good thoughts. I'm clinging to his behavior right now. He's not even acting like anything is wrong. He's more tired, but he's still hounding me for food and playing with his toys. I'm hopeful that his lack of demeanor change is a good sign. We're...

Re: IMHA and ITP

PCV was down to 20% this morning. Petechia occurring in his mouth and small bruising on his stomach. We are starting him on azithromyacin and cloisporone (spelling may be wrong) today. Should have the tick panel back by Saturday. I've been told that we are doing everything we can, but it still may n...

Re: IMHA and ITP

Thank you FransterDoo! I'm always happy to hear of survivors, even though it may have been difficult. We've got some petechia happening in his mouth this evening. I know that was something the vet had told me to look out for. I took pictures to show her tomorrow. Hoping its not a sign of bad things ...

Re: IMHA and ITP

Thank you! I truly appreciate all the positive vibes :) Apparently, we did not do a full tick panel yet, so that's happening tomorrow morning. The vet said if all of that comes back negative, we need to go to an internal specialist. I'm not sure what to think of all of this - it's al developed so qu...

Re: IMHA and ITP

He's on Prilosec once a day. They also gave him Lixotinic yesterday too. He hates it, but we'll get it in!

His PCV came back at 24% yesterday, which is up one percent from Saturday. We're waiting on an opinion from a pathologist to see what he can make of all of this.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Re: IMHA and ITP

We did a tick panel and everything came back negative. The cytology for the aspirations came back as reactive lymphnodes. Basically, they were filled with monocytes.
