Re: yawning around baby - should i be worried? (w/video link

again, thanks for the input. like i said, i never force them into social situations with each other. wesley is perpetually trying to get close to her. really, he likes to be close to all of us. and thats the thing - on the one hand, he seems docile and eager to be her friend, but then there is all t...

Re: yawning around baby - should i be worried? (w/video link

thanks for the replies! i should probably add that he is sitting on mommys lap, and that is at least part of the reason hes stretched the way he is. in any case, here is a more recent vid - from last week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btEMsF08XCk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you ...

yawning around baby - should i be worried? (w/video link)

wesley is about 4 years old. were not too sure of his age exactly because we got him from the aspca a couple of years ago. weve slowly been allowing the dog to get closer and closer to our 6 month old daughter, audrey. wesley has always been a stress yawner, ever since we got him. he does it so much...

Re: Local Pet Stores

dog daze, north syracuse NY great store with a terrific staff. their prices are much lower than the chain stores like petco. they offer a wide variety of high quality kibbles as well as gourmet treats. these folks are truly in it for the animals. whenever we go with wesley, the owner is literally on...

home made doggie treats?

a local doggy store sells gourmet treats for dogs and cats. they are pretty tasty, even by human standards! so now im thinking that i could whip something tasty up at home. i have some organic oat flour, honey, egg whites, peanut butter, and yogurt, all of which im considering using. i want to make ...

Re: mouthing over 1.5 years

we recently adopted an adult dog from the spca and he can be pretty mouthy. as suggested above, when he does it, say ouch or something like that and calmly walk away to show him that play/affection ends as soon as his teeth touch your skin. when you return a few minutes later, pet him to show him th...

fear of stairs

so today we got wesley from the spca. everything has gone so much more smoothly than i had ever hoped! he seems to like his new accommodations and his new family. but one little thing has surfaced that i have no idea how to help him with - hes afraid of stairs. hell go down stairs, but not up them. ...

Re: Got a Mouthy Pup?

i visited wesley yesterday again. he went straight for the leash handle (the leash is chain) as soon as we went outside. sometimes hell get my arm, and ive got to entice him with something else like a ball that ive been bringing just for this purpose. i just wonder if im teaching him that jumping up...

Re: 2 week shut down question: how much time in the crate?

wesley will be home on wednesday. ive been visiting him every other day, and he seems to be getting more and more comfortable with me. my question, though, is: when we bring him home, should we follow him around and allow him to freely explore the home? we will have a leash on him, so he will at le...

Re: tug o' war with the leash

i just read the jessup 'out' article. . . wow, the more i look around this site, the more this stuff is making sense! i will try a combination of these suggestions. once we are home, dropping the leash becomes a non-issue, so thats good. thanks for all the tips! im trying hard to think like a dog, b...

Re: tug o' war with the leash

thanks for the reply. the area in front of the shelter is not fenced, so dropping the leash was not an option. the walker grabbed the collar behind the dogs neck where the loop is and pulled straight up. thats how she got the dog to drop the leash. if we were out on a walk through the neighborhood o...
