anxiety/fear of humans (esp. male) near our territory

Zelda has been with us for 4 1/2 weeks, we had a successful shut-down and are using clicker training and positive reinforcement. She has always (and also in foster care) been timid of men. We try to avoid putting her in these situations, by keeping the front door closed so she doesn't see people wal...

Re: Two Weeks! Give em a break! :0 )

I stuck with the shut down, and we're now 4 weeks into a wonderful Zelda! I didn't keep Zelda put away as much as I thought the shut down was "about" but I did put her away when she got anxious with the kids. I added clicker training, and that made her much more confident. I also exercised...

Re: Shelby likes strangers now, but...

I am brand-lovin' new to this, but here are a couple thoughts I had. (Fresh off an AMAZING WONDERFUL clicker training experience with our new dog, Zelda.) Could you ask the person to get right next to Shelby where she doesn't need to scoot along? She gets the socialization and the reward, and once s...

Re: Clicker Training Update

I'm new and don't have any insight, but I'm just beginning clicker training with our rescue Zelda (16 days ago) and so I'm reading up on anything and everything.

So great to "see" the progress that Koda has made. :)

Re: Diatomaceous Earth

That is a great deal on food-grade DE! (There is DE for pools, which isn't what you want. Not that the OP doesn't know that, just for FYI since I didn't see it mentioned in the thead. :) ) We don't add it to Zelda's diet at this time, but I do use it in the garden and around the house. I have also h...

Re: raw feeding - what to expect, what to look for

Internet ate my last post - sorry! Thank you all for the great information. All is completely understandable and I don't feel confused at all. Last night's feeding of just muscle was because I was being a freak, worried that her upset tummy was because she'd gobbled down too large a piece of bone. I...

Oh and I have a question for you, what do you all waash/bath with since you not fond of soap (and antibacterial gel) ??? I took her statement: Antibacterial handwash and soap are terrible! to mean antibacterial handwash and antibacterial soap are terrible. Which I've been told by anyone with an adv...

Re: raw feeding - what to expect, what to look for

I guess I'm just a little on edge because we've only had the dog (ZELDA!) a week, and it's been 5 years since we owned a dog. And my first time raw feeding. She had her first raw poop a couple hours ago. That seemed to make her feel better, and her spirits have been better. I decided to give her jus...
