Sioux City, IA

I am on the other side of the state here, but it sounds like they already have the law prohibiting pit bulls and are considering them to be allowed in local shelters as an option for those who live out of city limits? http://www.kcrg.com/news/local/Sioux-City-Council-To-Consider-Pit-Bull-Proposal-25...

Re: Coconut Oil?

Do you warm it first or do you just give them the little chunk?

Coconut Oil?

I just bought some coconut oil to try for my skin care routine....getting tired of my winter skin heheh. Anyway, I was reading up on the stuff and a few places said that coconut oil is actually good for pets to eat - can help with digestion, skin/coat, hairballs(cats), joint health, and bad breath, ...

Re: Healthy treats

I use the Nutro crunchy treats as Greta's go-to treat. They are bite-sized and come in several flavors, and they are the perfect size for her Kong Wobbler, keeping in your pocket for walks, etc. When we need a higher value treat (company coming over, nail trimming time) I buy the little sample sizes...

Re: developing new anxieties?

Update: Last weekend when we took our drive, I put the Thunder shirt on about 10 minutes before we left and she was much better. No panting or yawning, though she did climb into the back seat to hang out for a while once or twice. So I guess we will keep using that, but I would still love tips on ho...

Re: developing new anxieties?

Have you tried the thundershirt in the car? I did try it, but it didn't seem to have any effect. However, when I tried it, we were about an hour into the drive when she started exhibiting symptoms, and when I put it on she was already anxious. The next time we drive I'm going to try putting it on b...

Re: developing new anxieties?

Are you sure it's anxiety and not car sickness? One of my bosses' dogs started getting car sick out of nowhere - she was fine for years and now they have to give her Dramamine for long car rides. Just a thought. I had not considered that; how do I tell if it's car sickness? She hasn't thrown up or ...

developing new anxieties?

Hi all, I haven't been around the forum a lot lately, keeping busy and whatnot. Greta is doing great except.... I think she is developing car anxiety. The only time she's exhibited anxiety symptoms in the past are when it's windy out - she paces, pants, hides under things, etc. Last spring I got her...

Re: Is this a tick bite??!?

update: the vet thought they were spider bites. two of them were faded this morning (including the one I was concerned about) but the one by her front leg was swelled and inflamed. He gave her an anti-inflammatory shot and said to get some Benadryl if that was not helping. :) He also recommended a b...

Re: Is this a tick bite??!?

I should add that I know my area is high in wood ticks; I've found them on myself. But I've never found a deer tick, which I know are the lyme-disease spreading variety. I guess I don't even know if lyme disease affects dogs? ahhhhh!

Is this a tick bite??!?

I was giving Greta belly rubs just now and found three red welts on her underside. They all look like bug bites (raised area with a spot in the middle) but one in particular has me worried because it has a ring around it. I use K-9 Advantix and have never had problems with ticks (granted, I lived in...

Re: why wont she stay off my feet??

Have you tried giving her something else to lay on while she is chewing on a bone? Vi has to lay on something (a toy, a pillow on the floor, a bunched up blanket) while she is chewing. I haven't a clue why. Maybe she thinks its easier to hold onto that way? If there is nothing available to drag ove...
