Re: Lymphoma

Sending tons of good thoughts.

I've seen several dogs go for years after diagnosis and chemo. I hope that Piper will be one of them.

Re: SOCKS HAS RECOVERED FROM MCT BUT NOW...

K/D isn't one of the more, er, palatable diets out there. What about a homemade diet consultation? Something like this? Not cheap and likely work-intensive, but potentially worth it.

Also, if you're not doing a fish oil supplement, I'd look into that. It can help with arthritis.

Re: The importance of blood work

Yup, agreed! I just did bloodwork on Luce because she'd accidentally lost four pounds. Probably a result of 11 days in a boarding kennel three weeks before, but she's 9 1/2 and I needed to make sure there wasn't something going on. The doctor didn't recommend it, but I wanted it. (She was acting com...

Re: dog backpacks?

I really don't care for the Outward Hound one I have. It works but it doesn't stay even close to straight on my dog no matter what I do. If I find a good deal on a Ruffwear one again sometime when I have the cash, I'll be buying one. I like that their straps come up between the dog's front legs inst...

Re: Rompum and Yohimbe

I did my Border Collie's awake, but at the time I was looking for the reason why he was limping (iliopsoas pull was the final verdict), not specifically for OFA films. I did end up sending them (he pre-limmed as "Good") and I think his hips ARE probably good, but I also think that sedation...

Re: Tick prevention

Frontline Plus still seems to work fine here (PA - LOTS of ticks/Lyme in our area). I still find ticks, but they're dead. I did a trial of Certifect (Frontline + low dose Amitraz) last fall, and while I did notice more of an odor and it's a bigger volume than Frontline, I would use it again if I fel...

Re: Joint supplements homework, please?

Currently using GNC Pets Ultra Mega Hip and Joint supplement (Glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM, some other stuff thrown in for good measure) as well as Welactin omega fatty acids supplement for my "knee dog". My other dogs get Glycoflex 1 and Welactin just for maintenance. Dasuquin is another...

Re: The Cost of Feeding Raw?

My kibble fed dogs don't need teeth cleanings either. There are a lot of variables to whether/how often a dog needs it's teeth cleaned. Yeah, my pit bulls are 9 and kibble fed, and other than having some slab fractures, their teeth and gums are great. But they're both heavy recreational chewers, an...

Re: Raw Question

I feed them without any problems. I usually feed one piece of neckbone and then fill out the rest of the meal with other muscle meat.

I definitely agree that they're *not* spongey. I worry a little bit about teeth breaking with them, actually.

Re: Hiking essentials

Dog specifics that I carry when hiking are a lightweight extra leash, a dog bowl, water for him, a small doggy first aid kit (good for humans too!), vet wrap, and booties. (My dog is super prone to foot issues, so I try to be prepared for that) Definitely carry more water than you think you'll need....
