Re: IMHA and ITP

I don't have any experience with IMHA, but my dog Turtle had ITP last February (primary concern, not as a result of another condition). The recovery wasn't bad; she stayed at the emergency vet for a few days and was on strict crate rest for about 2 or 3 days after she came home. She was on prednison...

Re: Hair Loss on Muzzle

I'm wondering if it is related to her coloring now. She has ceramic dishes for water and work to eat toys for food; I've never seen her rubbing her face on the ground like that, but maybe when I'm not home? I guess sun sensitivity due to her coloring sound the most likely, as I doubt it's related to...

Hair Loss on Muzzle

The hair on top of Turtle's muzzle has been thinning lately and I'm not sure what could be causing it. She was at the vet on Friday having another follow up CBC from when she had IMT so I had them do a skin scraping for mange, but it came back negative. Could the hair loss be the result of the high ...

Re: Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia?

Hmm...she's been on an antibiotic the whole time, but I'll have her checked for a UTI tomorrow.

Re: Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia?

I'm so ready for her to be off the prednisone. She's lost weight and her spine sticks out and as of today, seems to have developed incontinence. I don't know if that's a side effect of the prednisone or not, but I'm taking her back to the vet in the morning to have everything checked out. The last t...

Re: My Puppy has Parvo...

Wow...that's ridiculous. I definitely agree, you need to find another vet. Your puppy needs to be hospitalized so that she can be monitored and get the fluids and medicines that she needs. The sooner you get her treated, the better her chances of recovering. Sending good healing vibes to your pup. P...

Re: Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia?

Thanks everyone for the good thoughts. Her platelet count was up to 40,000 this morning so they sent her home, but she's on about 6 or 7 different medications and has to go back on Tuesday for a recheck.

Re: Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia?

Her platelet count dropped to 15,000 overnight so I'm having her stay another day to be safe. :crybaby: I wish she could have come home, but I think it's best she stay there until her platelets increase. Thank you for the information, MissKiwi. It really is reassuring to know that most dogs do well ...

Re: Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia?

Thanks for the information! That article did explain things a lot more clearly than the vet.

Turtle is almost 2 (about 1 year, 8 months or so).

Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia?

Does anyone have any information on immune mediated thrombocytopenia? We took Turtle in to the vet this morning to have a lump on her shoulder checked out and while we were there, the vet noticed some odd bruising and ran a CBC (she thought maybe Turtle had gotten into rat poison or something). It c...

Re: Pilaf-West Texas

Just an update on Pilaf. He will most likely be listed through Saving Grace Pit Bull Rescue. They are meeting him this weekend for a temperament evaluation before they absolutely agree to it, but I don't see that being a problem at all.

Pilaf-West Texas

Pilaf is an (approximately) four month old pit bull mix found wondering the streets last weekend. He is painfully thin, though it doesn't show in pictures, but the vet said he's healthy and happy. He is dog friendly (he loves Turtle) and we are working on teaching him how to interact with cats appro...

Re: TX groups??

Love-A-Bull is in Austin. There are also smaller rescues in smaller cities, like Saving Grace in Lubbock.
