Re: Behaviorist is Recommending We Euthanize Dexter ..

Thank you everyone for the kind words, support, and advice. I have an update! As of now we are not considering putting Dexter down anymore. During our move a few weeks ago we discovered that Dexter had been spitting out his pills (prozac) and pushing them under his pillow in his crate where we could...

Re: Behaviorist is Recommending We Euthanize Dexter ..

Thank you everyone for your support and comments. It's really hard to deal with a situation like this because you aren't sure what is the right thing to do! I have no prior experience with anything like this so I'm just trying to do the best that I can with the information I have. @Red - I definitel...

Re: Behaviorist is Recommending We Euthanize Dexter ..

Thank you Stormi once again for your advice. I will definitely look into contacting Mr Wright. I know in certain situations euthanasia is the only option left and it's best for everyone but I just don't want to go there until every possible option has been looked into. I will hate myself if I put do...

Re: Behaviorist is Recommending We Euthanize Dexter ..

We've been working with Faye with http://www.animalharmony.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The original person you referred me too was too far away and with the mileage charges the cost would have been very high. She hasn't straight out come out and say, "okay time to put hi...

Behaviorist is Recommending We Euthanize Dexter ..

Welp, today has been just awful. I haven't posted in a while so for those of you who don't remember me and Dexter ... I've had him for a year he's about 14 months old. We've been working with a behaviorist for around 6 months to deal with his fear aggression and frantic anxiety in certain situations...

Re: Lower Protein Food ??

I think I'm going to go with the Natural Balance sweet potato and venison or sweet potato and bison (whatever they have in stock at the pet store I shop at). They both have 20% protein, I figure that's 12% less than the TOTW he is on so if will be any behavior change that's a big enough difference i...

Re: Behaviorist questions

I feel your pain!! I really can't stand people with bad customer service or business practices. Especially when you are your company, get it together people! I also hate when people spell my name wrong, which is constantly - Marisa not Marissa! We ended up cancelling with the first behaviorist we ma...

Re: Lower Protein Food ??

@WackyJacki Thanks for sharing your experience. At first we were so embarrassed by Dexter's behavior and felt like he was a lunatic or there was something wrong with him. It helps so much to hear other people going through similar situations and having positive results. We've started the counter con...

Re: Lower Protein Food ??

Do you have a link to a thread or can you explain what his behaviors are that you're seeking to change via diet? I don't want to derail this thread if you don't want to and I have no expertise on the subject but I'm curious as I haven't really heard of this method before. I mean changing of diet he...

Re: Lower Protein Food ??

It won't necessarily change his behavior but she said there have been studies done where adolescent dogs with high protein diets showed the types of behaviors Dexter is showing. She also said there have been studies that showed that diet had no effect on behavior. We figured we'd switch up his food ...

Lower Protein Food ??

We met with the behaviorist last night to work out Dexter's issues. One of her suggestions as part of our overall plan is to reduce the protein levels in his food. Right now he is eating TOTW High Prairie and The Honest Kitchen - Keen. I hate to just give him some low end garbage but I can't seem to...

Re: Behaviorist/Behavioral Consultant

I'm no professional but I just went through a search to find a behaviorist in my area. Here are some links I used to find someone: http://www.animalbehavior.org/ABSAppliedBehavior/caab-directory" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; http://www.associationofanimalbehaviorprofessionals.com/di...

Used Weight Pull Harness?

Looking for a used weight pull harness for Dexter. I'd like to just try it out on him, have him pull some small stuff around to see if he's interested at all so I don't want to spend a ton of money. He's around 60 pounds. Anyone have an old one they'd want to get rid of?
