Re: Could my dog be RACIST? Advice wanted.

Thanks to those of you who offered positive advice :) Mona is a very sweet girl and I don't have concerns about her becoming aggressive...but I definitely want to make sure she has a positive attitude toward ALL people. We do socialize her a lot, and will continue to do so. She was about 10 months o...

On a happy note Mona is now a big girl!

Hee Hee! Well, after having Mona for about 8 months now I am proud to anounce that she has graduated to staying home alone all day while I'm at work...OUT OF HER CRATE! She has been doing this for about a month now...and there have been no accidents, no chewed up anything and she and her buddy Milly...

Re: How many think this is worth a laugh?

I surely just learned something. I thought it was funny until i read the thread. Makes much more sense now, and its pathetic and sad. Thanks for your honesty here. I think many, many, well meaning dog owners do stupid things simply because they don't know better. I am guessing this was the case in ...

Re: Could my dog be RACIST? Advice wanted.

I started to say there was one more incident before I accidently hit "post". Anyway, at a park one day there was a little boy, maybe 3 or 4, who was very dark and had a black hooded sweatshirt on. Mona just couldn't take her eyes off of him. She was not being agrressive at all, just very i...

Could my dog be RACIST? Advice wanted.

Okay, I know this sounds insane, but Mona, our 1 year old bully girl, appears to be nervous around people of color. She is a total lover and we have had NO aggression issues, but this spring we had some odd experiences. We take Mona almost everywhere with us, and that included the children's soccer ...

Richie...sweet boy in a shelter for at least a year.

We adopted our bully girl, Mona, from a shelter about 8 months ago. While at the shelter we meant several other bullys...including Richie. Ritchie was exceptionally polite and sweet and we were very interested in him, but we were told he had been adopted. However, when I went on to the shelter web s...

Re: I think I've found a genius way to cut my dogs nails!

I can do Austin's nails when he's zonked out, but not the other two. It sure is easy to do it when he's asleep! I love it! Though it does make me wonder if Mona would even alert me if there were a murderer in the house...laf! I guess even if she did wake up all she'd do is lick their face. Ah, what...

Re: I think I've found a genius way to cut my dogs nails!

I'm super lucky. I sit in the floor with my guys and can clip their nails by myself. Ruger is possibly the best tempered dog in the world and even though I've quicked him a couple of times he still lets me clip them. Catching them in their sleep is a good idea though, and I think on the board somew...

I think I've found a genius way to cut my dogs nails!

So maybe this is old news to you guys but I just discovered the GREAT trick! So Mona HATES getting her nails cut...sees the clippers and runs, pulls while I'm trying to cut, so on and so forth. The other day I noticed her nails needed trimming (again) and figured I'd wait until my husband got home s...

Mona's First Big Event!

I'm so proud of my Mona! We had a 30+ person Birthday party for my daughter yesterday and Mona was PERFECT! She was social but polite and LOVED every kid there! What an advocate for the breed! Everyone was so impressed. We've found that the smaller the child the more she loves them. She got to meet ...

Re: Update on Mona's issues...

The way I see it, she is scared of the car. If she is getting poked in the neck and "shh-ed" she is going to be more afraid of the car, because unpleasant things happen there. If she has only positive experiences surrounding the car, she will learn it is ok to be in the car. I think the e...

Re: Update on Mona's issues...

I have been reading up on Cesar's techniques and have read many threads on here in regards to them. I have mixed feelings at this point. Wouldn't be nice if every one just agreed that there was a "best" way to do everything...lol...the amount and variety of information and opinions can be...

Re: Update on Mona's issues...

it sounds like things are going great. Anyway, the funny thing was after her tongue lashing and a spank on the bottom she was calm in the car almost all the way to school which never happens. Hmmm...not planning and using these techniques to train by any means but it was interesting. Maybe she isn'...

Re: Update on Mona's issues...

This morning the kids let her out and she did about 5 full circles around the cul-de-sac before coming back (well, actually before I cornered her). I got mad and really yelled at her for the first time ever (not the best reaction I know but we were running late and I was quite stressed by her antic...
