Re: Shock Collars..?

The Really Reliable Recall DVD is great. I would suggest working an a basic recall in a very positive manner where she can not fail (in a low distraction environment, on-leash). Please don't use a shock collar for training. I have found 3 dogs running in traffic, with shock collars on, whose owners ...

Re: Pet Insurance

I forgot to update, about 3 months after my rate was raised I received a letter stating that it was a mistake and they refunded me the difference.

I am really, really pleased with HealthyPaws!

Re: Training Scholarships...any opinions?

This is wonderful!

I am a broke college student but always donate a little bit to charity around Christmas time and I would love to make a small donation.

ESA only allows your dog on planes and in housing, no public access.

The dog and the baby should be placed in a new home.

That is serious child endangerment, I don't know how anyone could find that remotely funny.

Re: Negative Reinforcement

This came to me at 3am, so please pardon my grammar... Like this? When teaching a left turn in the heel position Dog and handler are heeling in a straight line, handler makes an abrupt left turn. Handler exaggerates the movement of their right leg by bringing the knee up higher. Handler walks into ...

Re: Training Scholarships...any opinions?

Thanks MissKitty, that's exactly the one I was thinking of! Unfortunately I'm not as rich as I'd like to be  so I can only start off a scholarship type thing, and my hope is that other people would be able to/want to donate also. With the nosework prize, do you know if it is totally private...

Re: Training Scholarships...any opinions?

Wow. That is incredibly generous of you. I have not heard of anything like that but I think it is a wonderful idea! Nosework does have a scholarship for dogs who are blind, old and/or mobility impaired. One of my classmates (with a blind dog) applied and received it. http://swparks.org/pdfs/Emily_No...

Re: Vibration Collar

There are a few vibration only collars on the market. Deafdogs.org even has a how-to guide on how to make your own with a remote control hot wheels car. It should be noted for those who are not aware, the usage of a vibration collar is not to be confused with shock or a shock collar on vibration se...

What brand of collar did you purchase?

I bought PetSafe VT-1. It is a very cheap collar but I wanted to test a vibration only collar out without committing $200+.

I have thought about trying this! So I would be interested to see people's replies.

I am taking a truffle hunting class with Apollo and I am hoping that truffle hunting and antler hunting share some of the same training :)
