Re: Breaking the hearding habit

Dont punish her for doing what her instincts tell her. Go do herding with her so she has a mental outlet for what her brain is telling her she must do. If she has a time and place where its rewarded, the frequency of the behavior outside of that will be less. Also she will be tired, physically and m...

Re: Pros/Cons for spaying 8 yr old?

well 5 posts on an internet forum do not a census make Talk to your vet and raise all your concerns and your pros and cons and make sure he or she takes you seriously. there is great risk when the animal is older, and if shes had puppies there might be even more risk. I had a vet refuse to spay a 9 ...

What could this be (bloated belly)

There is a dog I groom every 5 weeks, a miniature Schnauzer, probably middle aged. He is more than a little neurotic, has balance issues (if you pick one leg up, he bounces on the other leg or flat out falls over), poops for the bathing and drying (but doesnt express glands, just constant solid poop...

Re: I need help not a bashing

I dont have a lot of input for your actual question, but I have to jump in on your logic for being pro cropping. Being so is perfectly okay, but piercing an ear on a child who can talk to you and make the call about wether she wants it or not, is very different than a 50% give or take amputation of ...

Re: Post neuter pic (Caution?)

I second shorts or a belly band or bitch panties. Or, if he will tolerate it, those big inflatable neck tubes that act the same as a cone, without being a cone. basically just makes it so he cant bend his neck in a U to reach back there, but he can still reach his front feet, water, food, toys, etc....

Re: Resource guarding

Thought to make this more interactive with videos, so that people can see body language, hear vocalization, and discuss what they think they are seeing. Is this dog resource guarding? She is growling and moving away as the person approaches her when she has a fresh bone. 1453063411_Cj7VnfT Looks li...

Re: Long Lines

the best long line option *I* have ever found is cotton horse longe lines-- theyre made for 1500 lb horses and theyre typically $10 at tack stores, and you can get like 30 or 50 ft too. Dog lines are typically marked way way up. Cotton is easier on the hands than nylon, is lightweight, easy to wash,...

Braided leather leashes/collars

How do you guys feel about them? Love em? Hate em? When you look for a braided (flat or round braid) lead or collar, what do you look for, and what do you like? Hardware? No hardware? Do you like them thicker with 6 or 8 strands, or does a nice quiet thin lead work for you? Trying to get a feel for ...

Re: Flat sided pails

I have 9 qt and 2 qt buckets. Both are fine for most any dog up to 100lbs to drink out of. I mean the 9qt is enough for a gorilla to drink out of but u know what I mean. Personally I would not get any more 9 qt buckets as the water tends to need to be changed when it is 2/3rds full. I use the water...

Flat sided pails

Does anyone have these, preferably in the 6 qt or 9 qt size? Trying to find out the exact dimensions of the bucket, ie how big the opening is, will my fat headed bullies be able to stick their big heads in the thing to drink lol

thanks
