Re: Dixie killed our cat.... :(

Ya, Dixie was being a dog with prey drive, and we know that. My fingers are ok...my right pointer finger has some tissue damage and is turning pretty colors today, so I'm working it slowly and carefully to get it bending comfortably again. She got my ring finger on my left hand also, and that one ju...

Re: Dixie killed our cat.... :(

Thanks everyone for the advice. We are starting to work with her on the ER and are definitely working to just prevent anything like this from happening if it's within our control. Thanks again!

Re: Dixie killed our cat.... :(

Awesome! We are definitely going to work on this with her. We are both totally willing to put in the work...I just want her to be a happy and healthy dog.

Re: Dixie killed our cat.... :(

She has killed a baby bunny and a tried going after a bird, but never a cat cuz the cat would always be faster and had places to run where she couldn't get at him. Nichole, thanks for the advice - I know she was just being a dog and saw the cat as prey and his parents get that. They weren't angry, t...

Dixie killed our cat.... :(

So last night was a bit traumatic for me. I was at our house (well, our parents but it's where we live right now) and no one was home, so I locked up their dog so that I could let Dixie and Tank run free for a bit. Things were going fine until apparently their cat snuck in the doggie door downstairs...

Carpet and door chewed up

O...M...G. So my husband and I left to go run a couple errands and a storm rolled through. Dixie was left out of her cage (which I shouldn't have done knowing there was rain coming...) and when we got back, she had literally tore up the carpet down to the bare floor and ripped a chunk of the door mo...

Obedience training started today!

So we just moved to our first house (yay!) and decided it was high time to get an obedience trainer to help us fix some of Dixie's behavioral issues we have been dealing with...she has had a problem with jumping on people, being aggressive on the fence when dogs are on the other side, pulling really...

Dixie freaking out when storming

I tried searching for 'storm' here, but figured it might be easier just to ask... Last night (well, early this morning), it started getting pretty windy here in Dallas, so Dixie came up right next to me in bed, shaking...this is pretty typical, and I can usually just pet her and wrap my arm around h...

Re: Dixie and Tank interaction

That's what we were thinking because she just lets him nip and nip and nip all over and she hasn't seemed to get "mad" about it. So we thought maybe she was just "putting him in his place" Cuz usually when she is in her pen and he happens to see her, he will "attack" th...

Dixie and Tank interaction

So my husband and I have been slowly letting Dixie and Tank interact with each other more and more lately. Yesterday, we let Tank walk around and noticed he nips at Dixie's jowels and nose and eyes...pretty much everywhere he can get his little teethies. Dixie doesn't really do anything but kinda je...

Re: Brought Tank home..

Thanks so much for the info...I am reading through it all this morning and am going to have my husband read through it here in a little bit so we can both keep things consistent with Dixie and Tank. Dixie seems to have started calming down a little bit, but I am going to try the 2 week shutdown to s...
