Re: BDD's newest creation... dog sport harness

Neat idea! I have a few BDD walking harnesses, and some from CD pits as well. I have the handles put on all my harnesses and will from now on. One dog wears it for flyball, and I love to have an easy-grab handle on my dog in new or uncertain situations where I may need to get physical control quickl...

Re: Who trains for someone else? Who employs other trainers

At one of the schools I attend, the instructors are contractors and when they teach group classes at the school, it is under the instructor's company and insurance. The instructors get 50% cut of student tuition (paid per X-week course session), and the school gets 50% cut. In my experience doing ot...

Re: Starting to worry about Dolly and the baby

Here's a consideration: from your description, I'm not sure what she's really afraid of. Is it the baby, or is it the walker? If Kael is out of his walker and you place him near Dolly, how does she react? Is she as/more/less nervous then? Alternatively, when Kael is napping, grab the walker and shov...

Re: Holy Cow! the clicker works!!!

that place looks better than the first, and her dogs are certainly accomplished in agility and obedience, but I'm still not seeing any certification credentials or description of training methods used. I'm curious as to why clicker training is a separate class? It seems that clicker training should ...

Re: I need links from you dog trainers!

I tend to agree that you cannot [humanely] train out the desire for some instinctual behaviors, like predetory behavior. However you CAN gain control of those desires and get your dog to think through and chose a more desirable behavior. For strong instinctual behaviors, I think the use of Premack P...

Low Stress Handling, Restraint and Behavior Modification

I've been pining over this Dr. Sophia Yin's "Low Stress Handling, Restraint and Behavior Modification" $150 book/dvd combo myself, and saw on facebook that you can purchase an online version for 30 days for only $25. http://drsophiayin.com/lowstress/online" onclick="window.open(this.href);...

Re: Am Veterinary Med Assn ruling against Raw Pet Foods

What I wanna know......... is HOW is grandma coming in contact with feces ? What about the smaller dogs that happen to step in it while outside and then jump on granny's lap. Granny later rests her hands in her lap and even later itches her face. If you think about it, dog owners generally are not ...

Re: Dog breed genetic tests put to the test

Interesting article, but I was disappointed to find no mention of BSL at the end where it discussed

Do a mutt’s breeds matter?

What breeds comprise a mutt is clearly interesting to most, if not all, dog owners, but beyond simple curiosity, is there any value to knowing?

Thanks for keeping this journal.
My boy has done something to his leg and a preliminary check by a canine PT friend thinks it may be a partial tear. I'm heartbroken that my bouncy boy may have to be quiet for months.

Re: Psycho Puppy!

Great ideas re: exercise. As far as the sit conundrum, sounds like a typical teenager. Hormones are raging, who knows what's going on in there. Things they knew down pat as puppies are now foreign concepts to them. It will come back. Be persistent and patient. Reteach if necessary. I've got a psycho...
