Skunked

Well it finally happened. Finnegan got sprayed by a skunk in our fenced in yard last night. She was bugging me to go out at about midnight so I let her out into the back yard. She took off like a rocket around the corner of the garage towards the tree where she usually chases squirrels. I hear some ...

Gravol is safe for dogs. Our older (non-pit bull) dog suffers from vestibular syndrome. Our vet told us to give him gravol when he has one of his episodes. It helps with the vertigo and calms him down. He weighs about 80lbs so for a 50 lb dog you might want to reduce the dose to a half a pill or les...

I just read this. I'm so sorry for your loss. Please try and remember what a happy time Slim had with you. He was lucky to find such a caring owner after such a terrible start in life.

Hopefully your vet is just being really thorough (a good thing) and the problem will just turn out to be nothing.

Just out of curiosity how old is Stockey? The symptoms and diagnosis that you describe are familiar to me. Not to scare you but our old pit bull mix Rico developed similar symptoms that then developed into congestive heart failure when he was 15 years old. He was put on diuretics and heart medicatio...

I have one of the Chilidogs coats as well. They are well made and look great. It is also easy on and off. I highly recommend them. It worked well last winter and last winter up here was very cold. I also have muttluks for Finnegan's feet. Once she got used to them they worked well. Without them, las...

I don't have any answers for you but hopefully Boo will see this. Her dog Hooter sure looks great now but had really saggy boobies when Boo first got her.

Thanks Leslie. I have been watching her carefully on warmer days. My running approach is to run for 10 minutes and then walk for one (repeat as necessary). That gives me a good chance to check her out during the rest periods. On very hot days, I will just leave her home. Luckily we run in the mornin...

Thanks everyone. She will be 3 years old in August.

There is a river that runs through our town. I'm thinking that as the weather gets a bit warmer, I might change our route so that we pass by the river. That way, she could wade in and cool off if necessary.

Finnegan is tall and leggy and could well may be a mix of some kind although she's all bully personality wise. :) In any case, she leans toward the "game-bred" body type rather than the "amstaff" body type stereotypes. When we get back from a run she often races around the yard with her jolly ball w...

Running with your dog

I know that we have discussed this a little bit in the past but I have some new questions. All spring Finnegan has been running with me. I just recently started running again after being sidelined with an injury. I started by doing a run/walk program so it has been a nice gradual build-up for both o...

We've been feeding green beans to Max the fat lab/newf mix. We haven't been able to find unsalted canned beans so we've been using frozen beans. He seems to love all frozen veg so it seems to be working.

Okay here's a related question about male dog anatomy...What ARE those "little balls" that sometimes bulge on neutered male dogs? Anyone?
