Re: Dog Throwing up

Sounds like she may need a trip to the vet to rule out medical issues. That being said, dogs have an extremely sensitive gag reflex, and their first reaction when they have a bellyache or minor issue is to throw up. Also, feeding her improperly can cause her to throw up (ie, allowing her to gobble u...

Re: Trifexis -- how's it working out for you?

I too have been very happy with trifexis. I have many of the same issues with topicals as your boys/household do. I feel that it's more cost effective because it's a three in one product. And again, easier to remember to give it. To help combat ticks, I've been using an Insect Shield bandana when ou...

Re: too skinny?

i got my first "your dog is too skinny!" comment yesterday...to which i replied "i can assure you i am not starving my dog". i'll post more pics when i get them. You'll get used to it. The average American has such a skewed idea of what a healthy dog looks like. Now I just compa...

Re: Gaining Weight

Honestly, she looks heavier than your first posts of her, and I don't feel that it's all muscle. Just my 0.02.

Re: Gaining Weight

She looks pretty good...it does look like she's gained a little weight, though. I like my dog pretty lean, but that's just me. I like to see some rib and a nice tuck. http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL758/13393668/24074176/401997261.jpg He's skinny, but he's got muscle too. And he's got a thicker co...

Re: Exercising Properly/Safely

Celeste, I always have a good warm up and cool down for Henry. As a cyclist/triathlete myself, I know I feel like crap without my warm up and cool down before/after moderate-intense exercise. I also experience a lot of stiffness and soreness later without them. I know many dogs are inherently in bet...

Re: Tick prevention

Frontline Plus still seems to work fine here (PA - LOTS of ticks/Lyme in our area). I still find ticks, but they're dead. I did a trial of Certifect (Frontline + low dose Amitraz) last fall, and while I did notice more of an odor and it's a bigger volume than Frontline, I would use it again if I fe...

Re: Tick prevention

we are in the lyme disease CAPITAL of the USA.... really our county in Virgina (Loudoun County) is #1 nationwide for Lyme Disease. YHEAAA! Anyways, the ONLY thing that seems to work for us is K9 Advantix, before we started using that we would still pick ticks off him in the spring, summer and fall....

Re: Tick prevention

The ticks are out in FORCE here in Iowa, and if you live in an area where lyme disease exists (make sure your vet is testing for it, even if you don't have it), then you need to have something effective. Most topicals work well, but I've recently tried the preven-tic collar, and I liked it a lot. I...

Tick prevention

Seeing the recent heartworm prevention thread made me think. A couple of years ago I switched from giving Heartguard and frontline to giving trifexis (heartworm, intestinal worms, flea prevention combo). Ticks I haven't worried about too much, instead just checking Henry over after a hike. However, ...

Re: The Cost of Feeding Raw?

El_EmDubya, I would love to read your analysis, whether it gets shot down or not. I'm well aware of the controversy surrounding certain scientific facts/research, and I know science is not infallible. Anything with a human being behind it has room for error and bias. Prof. Rock Star...Dir of Resear...
