Re: Recall, Kirkland and Taste of the Wild

Checked my production codes and looks like i'm safe. Had me worried for a minute, Starry has had decreased appetite lately.

Re: Switching from BARF to Dry diet - suggestions on food

I've been giving Gauge Taste of the Wild without any complaints. He gets some raw too, right now three meals a week raw and the rest kibble. Probably eventually go to one kibble meal a day and one raw meal a day. Haven't had any messes in the house and while I might have missed an outside mess I hav...

Re: B.A.R.F. 101

IMO kidney is the worst smelling organ! You can cut and portion when it is partially frozen. It is easier and cuts down on the smell. What type of kidney did you feed? I give a small amount daily or my boy gets cannon butt! You can usually get beef liver at most grocery stores. Organ should be 50% ...

Re: B.A.R.F. 101

Could use some feedback on if i'm doing this properly. I wanted to introduce Gauge to raw without going all in. So the plan right now is to keep him on his TOTW 2X/day but three meals a week we will replace with raw. So i've been giving him chicken quarters or the equivalent and he has been doing we...

Re: Lumps on Honey

So glad to hear it's not a big deal. In my last dog the lump was a big deal and that was very difficult to deal with.

Re: GI problems, probiotics vs antibiotics?

Cases like starry's can be difficult to resolve. Was the rectal prolapse caused by a pre-existing condition that was made worse by poor nutrition or are her current issues a result of the prolapse? Metronidazole is often used in chronic GI cases but if it isn't working, I'd recommend doing some mor...

Re: GI problems, probiotics vs antibiotics?

Hmm, I'm not familiar with the condition of rectal prolapse but I would be very concerned with her being on antibiotics for a year. Since antibiotics kills all bacteria, then she has no "gut flora" - i.e. good bacteria - that is also necessary for the digestive system to work properly. If...

Re: GI problems, probiotics vs antibiotics?

Which meds is she on specifically? Has she had a fecal float done? Metronidazol and C-mesalamine. Not sure what tests have been done, she did mention when we see her that she had not had a biopsy done. She was with the foster for a full year before I took her so not real sure what was done. When we...

GI problems, probiotics vs antibiotics?

A little background, when the rescue found Starry a bit more then a year ago they had to do emergency surgery for a rectal prolapse. I put rescue pics of her on a post on the general site if you are interested. Anyways, as would probably be expected she suffered from diarrahea (sp?) after this, pres...

Re: Melatonin

my .02, usually starting dosage for melatonin for people should be about 3 mg. Probably about half that for a dog. A person should be safe taking much more then that though if they are really having trouble sleeping. The strange dreams thing is kind of weird though. If you remember your dreams it us...

Re: Supplements and Vitamins

Personally I have a hard enough time trusting the quality of supplements made for me, no way am I going to trust the quality of a brand made for my dog. So when I have given my dogs supplements they get it from the same bottle I do. Now obviously there are cases where they need stuff especially form...

might as well get started here, maybe i'll learn something..

Hi everyone, i'm 33, married, living in SE Michigan. Two dogs and one fat cat. Rescued my first Pit bull while in college. Didn't really know what I was getting myself into but fortunately Cheerio had a good temeperment, even if she was a hyperactive devil. Probably never trained her as well as I sh...
