Re: Recall, Kirkland and Taste of the Wild

Checked my production codes and looks like i'm safe. Had me worried for a minute, Starry has had decreased appetite lately.

Re: Breaking up a fight with 2 or 3 dogs

I can't imagine even TRYING to pry a jaw open. Please don't...I did and I thought I lost half of one of my fingers and sticking my hands in his mouth was the only reason I was bit by my Pit Bull - our other dog, a border collie, bit me at least 10 times. It was my initial reaction to my first exper...

Re: Fish oil for behavior

ps. The above inquiry of the use of 5-HTP and the subsequent dosage advise should not be taken as a recommendation to use 5-HTP. You should seek professional assistance from a veterinary behaviorist before using such a supplement. yeah... was reading the thread and kinda thinking the same thing. My...

Re: Fish oil for behavior

I have no idea how fish oil affects behavior, I use it, for myself and my dogs, for purely health reasons. As already mentioned, not all fish oils are created equal. Supplements are always a tricky subject because they are not subject to the same restrictions as food or drugs(may be different outsid...

Re: Help... dogfight

If anybody wants an update things seem to be going in the right direction. Did crate and rotate for a good two weeks, most of which was essentially a shutdown for Starry who is the fearful stressed out dog of the two. Week three (which was this past week) we allowed them to hang out together indoors...

These are nylabones i'm talking about, not actual food bones.

Dogs fighting over toys?

So I don't know if this is strictly resource guarding. Gauge sometimes decides that all the bones are his. So even though we have two bones, even if he is chewing his bone already, he will sometimes go up to Starry and steal her bone. Starry typically lets him have it but still this can create a ten...

I work in Troy. We are supposed to work with our rescue(Paws for Life) with a behaviorist but it's always good to have more resources. Thanks.

Re: Help... dogfight

I would say DO NOT SEPARATE. Your supposed to correct them and stop the problem at level one. Whoever started the fight, closely watch him/her. Before the fight starts stop it. keep repeating the "scene" where the fight started to brew. This should fix the problem within a few days. If yo...

Re: Help... dogfight

Well Starry is showing alot of signs of being under stress. She always was stressed and skittish but with the fight there is no doubt she has regressed. I think we are definitely going to do a shutdown, she can't be super active with her stitches in anyways. I don't really have a seperate room so th...

Re: Breaking up a fight with 2 or 3 dogs

Wish I had read this last week. Had to break them up this weekend and fortunately a neighbor came over because i'm not sure what I would have been able to accomplish on my own. We of course did everything wrong and both paid the price and I'm still not sure how we got them seperated. I half remember...

Re: Help... dogfight

so we have been trying to socialize them again in small bits. First I took Gauge for a run so he wouldnt be hyper, then we let them kind of hang out, they mostly licked each other, sniffed, licked wounds etc... Did this for a little, then gave them a break, then did it again a little bit later and w...

Help... dogfight

so my two angels decided to try and kill each other today. im typing this one handed as i took some collateral damage in breaking them up. I saw it all happen so im fairly confident i know what triggered it, wasnt normal play, which can get rough but is typically mutual. This was Gauge playing tugow...

Re: How do I help ease his anxiety and over-excitement?

I'll let someone more qualified handle most of this but fwiw 75 lbs is not a small pitbull. Sure they come bigger but I would call that a pretty good sized pitbull. Sounds like some of the problems are with the other dogs. One of my dogs, Gauge, is the same way around the cat. Keeps trying to play w...

I can't figure out how to upload pictures...He looks about full sized but his feet are still big. How do you upload pics? Far as I can tell you can't upload from your desktop, needs to be from another website. I just upload from my facebook. right click the pic and save image location, then click I...
