Re: Nibbling/pinching in the mornings?

from what i've read & done from the advice, this is what i have experienced (my pit was a nibbler too when he got excited): the dog is trying to get your attention. when you use a loud "NO" you are giving your dog attention. so it won't stop the behavior. I use the "OWWWW" me...

Capo had his first close up dog meeting today...

So Capo had his first meeting of a dog tonight....I wasn't excited about it (I don't think he's quite ready yet). A girl at the coffee shop brought her lab/hound mix right over to us...and told us she had JUST picked him up from the pound TODAY. oh geez....don't get me started. She had good intentio...

Re: Two Weeks! Give em a break! :0 )

I can attest to the importance of a 2 week shutdown. I am so glad we stuck it out with our pitbull.....their personality really doesn't come out until 2 weeks anyway. And during that time, it REALLY builds your bond and establishes you as the leader of the house. It's hard sometimes, but sets your d...

Re: Tips for stopping barking?

can you be a little more detailed in the timeline of this training? so we teach him a knock means go get a toy....how would we do this when he is in his crate? usually when friends come over he is in the crate at first. then his toy would already be in the crate? i guess i'm just not understand the ...

Re: Tips for stopping barking?

Well we treat him all the time...for good behavior, doing commands, etc. And by the time someone has walked in, he's uninterested in toys. Even if the new person gives him a treat, he'll take it, then bark at them. lol I can grab his attention for a moment with chicken or a hotdog, then he's back fo...

Tips for stopping barking?

So the 2 week shutdown officially ended yesterday with Capo! He's been doing great...he walks on a leash like a gentleman, knows his commands, is learning the rules of the house etc. But now his "true" self is showing, and we've discovered he barks. Not a lot or overbearingly, but at inapp...

Re: Two Weeks! Give em a break! :0 )

So the 2 weeks is "officially" over tomorrow. Capo has done great. Its so true how their personality starts to REALLY shine through....he love to run circles and "laps" around the house. He's got his basic commands. We're working on walking with perfect manners how & soon we'...

Re: How to stop jumping & transition out of the 2 week shutd

Thanks everyone! Great replies. We've been ignoring and it's getting better. Sometimes he just gets so excited he doesn't control himself. We've started walking him and training him not to pull at all, and for his first couple of times he's done great. Thanks for your help! Any tips on getting a dog...

Re: How to stop jumping & transition out of the 2 week shutd

thanks guys. the ignoring makes sense. and getting him to sit to get attention makes sense too. Jillian is having a rough day today. she's a bit sick, plus Capo is testing her, so she's having a rough go of it today :( i told her just to be patient & firm & in control. it is hard because he'...

How to stop jumping & transition out of the 2 week shutdown

Hi everyone, we are almost done with the 2 week shutdown of our new pitbull, Capo. He's about a year old and doing really well. He's an adoption from Carolina Care Bullies. The only thing is, when he gets really excited, he jumps. It's worse when he jumps on my fiance, because she's only 110 lbs, an...

Re: Hi I'm Matt! So excited!!

He had a foster mom and I'm feeding him the same food....Tasteof the Wild. Treats are some things I got from a local and very healthy pet store....same place I got the food from. I think it's just the treats he's not used to and the new environment. I give it a couple days and I think he will be fin...
