Mole?

So, this is a weird question -- but do dogs suddenly get moles?

Our pit suddenly has a small black mole on her nose that was never there before... it's not raised and it's not gotten larger, so I'm not sure it's something I need to worry about?

Dog-Dog Aggression

Do dogs who were formerly dog friendly suddenly start to turn dog-dog aggressive as they age? About 10 months ago, we adopted a pit bull mix from the local pit bull rescue group. We thought she was 3 years old (based on the info the shelter gave us) but our vet said she was MAYBE 15-18 months old. S...

Re: Protective aggression?

Before we adopted her, we had gone to the shelter a few times to check out all the dogs. We played with her once outside and came back another day to play with her again inside. She "aced" her behavior test and did well in play groups (but would tend to escalate a bit and need a correction...

Re: Protective aggression?

I was reading more about the different types of aggression on the ASPCA website and I would say that she displays definite defensive aggression (which is motivated by fear). She will charge at the person (with no contact), muzzle punch, nip at the air, and use a guttural bark. We have had Alta for a...

Protective aggression?

Last weekend, we took our recently adopted pit bull (Alta) rock climbing/camping. Normally, Alta is a big lovable doofus. However, when new people come to our home, she will run up to them and bark at them... she will also attempt to lick/nip at their hands or even their faces. Alta's bark is normal...

Playing tug?

This is obviously a newbie pit bull owner question, but what are the thoughts on playing tug? I've heard playing tug with a pit bull is not good or that it's okay as long as you win every time, etc... We used to avoid playing tug with our Alta, but we recently gave her a rope toy and she kept shovin...

Re: Greetings!

My name is Annie, and I'm 26 years old. My boyfriend and I recently moved from Southern California to Utah. I was introduced to pit bulls right out of college. I worked for the Humane Society of Indianapolis and immediately fell in love with the breed. Several of my co-workers owned them, and they w...

Greetings!

Hello all: In February of this year, we adopted a 1.5 year old pit bull/american bull dog mix from the local pit bull group. Her name was Precious (ew) but we renamed her Alta. We already had a dog at home, a 3 year old pug, which is basically the polar opposite of a pit bull. We decided to join the...
