Redhead has been fed raw since he was a pup, and he has no shortange of energy. If anything, the opposite.

We used to joke that we should start feeding him the nastiest, cheapest least-natural locally-produced dog food, just to slow him down.

Redhead mostly gets random mystery meats. Living in Ukraine is a raw feeder's paradise, with collective farm markets everywhere selling all kinds of stuff. Even so, I have not been able to get a consistent line on good cheap duck, goose, rabbit, goat, etc. entrails. Once in a while they come up. Red...

Redhead can destroy a black Kong in a couple of minutes if he wants to.

Strangely enough, he was much more destructive of toys as a puplet.

When my parents made me eat corn when I hated it I don't think I would have been eatin a whole lot of corn to get the proper nutrition. I would eat just enough to make them happy. Dogs don't think like that. What you do is as follows: Prepare a bowl of food at feeding time. Give it to the dog. If t...

No dog will starve to death when food was available. Don't let him "train" you to feed him what/when he wants. He needs to learn that he eats what you give him, when you feed him, and that's that.

I don't let Redhead gain any winter weight; especially coming off CCL surgery, I want to keep as much weight as possible off his repaired knee.

We don't have Thanksgiving here in Ukraine, but Redhead gets turkey now and then. One of his favorites.

I dunno, I feed Redhead raw, and that includes things like chicken feet, and animal heads, hearts, lungs, tongues, esophagi, brains, guts, tendons, stomachs, random pieces of cartilage, fruit and veggie juices, and veggie scraps, (including but not limited to corn).

One nice thing about living here - most people feed raw or "people food", you can get ingredients (like random cuts of mystery meat) at any market, and vets generally support raw feeding.

The original article does not say that "corn is good food" although it is carefully worded to give the reader that impression. What the article actually says is "as grains go, some corn byproducts are not so bad." You do the math. I mostly feed Redhead random cuts of raw meat, al...

ACL/CCL question

I asked this earlier in another topic, but noone answered.

We know that genetics plays a major role in hip dysplasia. To what extent is genetics a factor in CCL tears? Or is it mostly a matter of circumstances?

In other words, to what extent does a dog pass on a tendency to tear ligaments?

Redhead snorts when he is excited and having fun. He makes a similar noise when swallowing saliva from hard exercise.
