You can also use one of those balls on a string thingees. Just don't get one with a solid rubber ball. Before Redhead tore his CCL, I took a homemade ball-and-string when we went jogging. Suddenly jogging went from being a pointless activity best left to humans to the most exciting entertainment kno...

One thing I did was stop leaving out food items on counters.

Suddenly counter surfing wasn't nearly so interesting.

Redhead has been fed raw since he was a pup, and he has no shortange of energy. If anything, the opposite.

We used to joke that we should start feeding him the nastiest, cheapest least-natural locally-produced dog food, just to slow him down.

What has changed or is changing? A new bill before the legislature? Or is the problem a court matter?

There are different kinds of DA, but I'll keep it simple for now. In some ways, it's easier owning a dog that you now know is DA. He is what he is, you know it, there is no point dancing around the issue. Since you know that Seattle is DA, what you now need to do is to control it. Fortunately, DA is...

Redhead did not want to go for walks when I first got him. So I started giving Redhead his meals (not treats but his regular meals) outside. In other words, he was good and hungry. I carried his food bowl out, carried him outside, and let him have a bite every few steps. Pretty soon Redhead got the ...

Redhead mostly gets random mystery meats. Living in Ukraine is a raw feeder's paradise, with collective farm markets everywhere selling all kinds of stuff. Even so, I have not been able to get a consistent line on good cheap duck, goose, rabbit, goat, etc. entrails. Once in a while they come up. Red...

Redhead can destroy a black Kong in a couple of minutes if he wants to.

Strangely enough, he was much more destructive of toys as a puplet.

To amplify Linariel's point, lots of people think that their dog will protect them because it raised its hackles, barked, or growled once at a suspicious person. Of course, for the vast majority of dogs, this is as far as they will go. If put into a situation where the dog must go beyond threat disp...

I did it by treaching Redhead a "formal" heel. "Heel" always means start by coming to my left side and sitting no further forward than my knee. Click and treat. Then we walk, still in "heel mode". For Redhead, "Heel" remains in effect (stay by my left knee) un...
