Re: My training plan for my new puppy

Regarding the walks at a young age and vaccinations: The reason why a puppy needs vacs done by 16 weeks is because that's around when the protection from the mother's vacs wears off. If you're certain the mother was up to date on vaccinations and your area is not a hotspot for parvo or anything else...

Re: Puppy questions (with pics)

Thanks for the ear feedback. They're both sticking up most the way now and I hope it stays that way! Also, she does look like she grew into her eyes, if that's possible. She's still a runty little stinker, though, at 23 weeks and 27 lbs. I'll be surprised if she reaches 35. My husband and I joke tha...

Re: PeePoop out of control

Great post, mooresmajestic!

Also, a puppy in a room empty of all remotes and other things might still decide he wants to see what the wall tastes like!

Re: PeePoop out of control

Maybe the lesson from this is that he shouldn't be free in a room, unsupervised, for four hours. My girl can get into trouble in 2 minutes, I think you should be thankful that all you're doing is cleaning up poo!

Re: PeePoop out of control

I think you should be working on getting him to go outside. At the very least you shouldn't wait until 6 months - he's going to be close to his full size by then (height at least) and could you imagine the mess? He is going to have to go a lot more often than twice a day, though. More like every thr...

Re: Is this something i should worry? DOMINANCE

It does sound like just puppy behavior. He is a teething animal that until recently was in a group of other animals that communicated primarily with body language. You are his world now, and there will be some friction! I would suggest working towards taking him outside for potty training. Unless yo...

Re: The "Come" Command

Not sure how big your boy is, but I started my girl on "Come" when she was small enough that it didn't hurt me to have her running into me. I'd sit/kneel and say "Come here!" and act SUPER EXCITED as she ran over and go nuts when she reached me. Basically "Come here" = ...

Re: Umbellial Hernia post Spay

They spayed at 8 weeks?! Not saying that's wrong, just I've never heard of it. My Emma has an umbilical hernia too. It's gotten a little bigger as she's grown, to a little larger than a quarter on an 18 lb pup, but it's not causing any trouble. Per the vet's suggestion we're waiting to have it fixed...

Re: Going on Paper

Take her outside, for the reasons listed above. My pup was potty training during a cold snap where it was routinely freezing or colder. The discomfort of going outside in the cold was still preferable to the discomfort and shame of going potty inside where I didn't want her to. It takes her 45 secon...

Re: Some issues with my apbt

I'm not sure about the potty issue, but f he never potties in his crate, you could try feeding him in his crate, leaving him in there for a little while after he eats, then taking him out immediately. With the excitement thing, don't feel bad! It's pretty normal, just something you'll have to work o...

Re: Puppy questions (with pics)

No more pics because I can't find the camera, but her white ear now stands up half the time! She's growing a little faster too: 16.5 lbs at 16 weeks and 17.8 at 17 weeks. Oh yeah, she's sticking with the Orijen Puppy and Orijen Fish mixture, and gets 1 cup in the morning and 2/3 cup at night. Now th...

Re: Harmless Puppy Behavior?

Definitely read that sticky on puppy biting. We've had Emma a month, and we have been acting hurt and ignoring her when she bites, and she's gotten better. When we got her she thought play=biting everything, and now she sometimes bites my hand when it's on a rope toy we're playing with, and she stil...
