Re: Feeding kibble causes tartar buildup?

Does feeding a dog a kibble diet produce tartar buildup on a dog's teeth versus feeding raw? When feeding kibble to Zoe, even high quality kibble, I had to scrape/brush the tarter off of her front canines every few days. Since switching to a raw diet there hasn't been anything to brush away. Anecdo...

Peace, (If you want to continue to discuss this, or to send me links, I welcome it, but please PM me as I think we've hijacked this thread for long enough.) While the thread may have been hijacked, I'm enjoying reading it. So, if you wouldn't mind keeping it public (and civil, as it has been), but ...

An update

Thanks to everyone for all your help. I've made a few modifications and Zoe's diet now consists of the following: - 5 to 6 ounces of assorted chicken parts - 1 chicken heart or liver per meal - a few pieces of cubed steak (total about 1 to 1.5 ounces) - 1 heaping teaspoon of my patented 'green stuff...

After a lot of research this morning, including this thread I've decided I'm going to go with Timberwolf Wild & Natural for my new dog, and I'm wondering if someone knows where's the cheapest place I can find some. When I was still feeding Timberwolf to Zoe (which, by the way, she thrived on un...

Right now whatever is in season. In her current mix of slop it's green beans, carrots, apples, and bananas. Carrots, apples and bananas are a lot of sugar. If you're going to be feeding veggies you might want to try a whole lot less fruits, more veggies. Point taken, thank you. The fruit/veggie com...

What veggies/fruits are you using? Right now whatever is in season. In her current mix of slop it's green beans, carrots, apples, and bananas. Regarding the cider vinegar, where do I find something like that? How much and how often? Regarding fish oils and vitamin E, same question as above, how muc...

Oops! Forgot to mention that each meal also includes 1 chicken organ (heart, livers, and whatever else they sell in the 'chicken parts' package at the grocery store).

Thanks again!

Please critique Zoe's new diet.

I've recently started feeding Zoe a raw diet, I'm not sure if you'd consider it a prey diet, BARF, or just plain ol' raw, but I'm curious as to whether or not you'd consider it a balanced diet. She's getting mostly chicken parts like thighs, wings, and drumsticks - depending on what's on sale at the...

Oh yea I also forgot to mention, his breath is more likely from him stomach vs his actual mouth.

There's no question about that. The burps tell the tale! Ugh!

Oh, by the way - it's a her (or it was at birth. :))

Natures Variety is a much higher quality dog food than Timberwolf? When did that happen? I'm not suggesting that NV is a poor food, but between the sticky at the top of this forum, and the nutritionist at the local dog store I'm led to believe that TW still leads the pack with regards to kibble. Wit...

There isn't much plaque to begin with, just a lump on her right from canine. That's being treated with daily brushings and Novadent. The Novadent is wonderful stuff. Like many others here, I've contemplated switching to an all raw diet, but like many others I'm also concerned that I won't be able to...

Breath smells of sour milk - Low sulfer diet?

Lately (past 5 or 6 weeks) Zoe's breath has smelled of sour milk. I called the vet and they suggested that it might be caused by one of two things: * dental problems * high amounts of acid in her digestive system I've poked around her mouth and aside from a very little bit of plaque (which I'm treat...

For what it's worth, my first order (only a few days ago) showed up on a Tuesday and was placed the previous Thursday. Not too bad when you consider that there's a weekend in there.

Update: Well, I managed to get this sweet little girl inside and surprisingly, Zoe hasn't tried to make a meal of her (I'm absolutely shocked), and in fact, Zoe is actually getting along QUITE well with her. So, for the time, she's got a home. Anyhow, we've got bright orange signs up around the neig...
