Re: Fosting a recently weaned mama....

alright. due to all of the concern, I went back and dug around to get the correct information. I really wish I could edit my original post. Pups were 8 weeks when I picked up mama. They were fostered out in pairs or trios (for socialization reasons I assume). Back on topic now, since this was a post...

Re: Lots of face scratching.....

i'm not sure if it was 6wks or 8wks. It's a non-profit, so I'm sure they are operating within their legal guidelines. 2 weeks would be a silly thing to lose your tax exempt status over....

Re: Fosting a recently weaned mama....

well, she still seems quite unsure of things in the house. outside she's much more alert/excited about things (we live a ways off the road, no super-close neighbors, etc) and will prance and jump a bit, likes to sniff a lot. Inside the house it's mostly ears back, tail down, lots of time in the kenn...

Re: Lots of face scratching.....

well the verdict is an ear infection, and possibly something with a tooth. her ears are very red (even I could see that!) and have lots of bacteria going on in them, so we have a flush, drops, and prednazone for the inflammation. they said that if she keeps scratching at her *face* a lot, especially...

Re: Lots of face scratching.....

Called the contact at the rescue, and she asked a few questions, and we've got a vet appt for tomorrow. Sounds like it might be ear mites since I notices some scabs in her ears during bath time. She's shaking her head a lot, and dragging her head in the snow when we're outside to potty. I feel like ...

Re: Lots of face scratching.....

I have to call the rescue and let them set up the apts with the vet. There's also a tiny bit of brown stuff when she first pees. And I'm concerned it might be blood. BUT! I don't want to be the hypochondriac foster home that is doing too much "self diagnosing" ya know? I think I'll start w...

Lots of face scratching.....

we are fostering a mama dog for a local rescue, her pups were 6wks and went to other foster homes. we got her yesterday, and when I picked her up, the lady I got her from said that she had just started scratching at her face more. Perviously she had been biting and chewing on her tail, just down fro...

Re: Fosting a recently weaned mama....

well she's here! she seems to be very sweet, anxious to get as much affection as she can (hopefully that translates to a motivated learner), and just a little nervous. She rode great in the car, and has only whined a little since we've been home. I put a Kong in her kennel with a ziggie in it, and s...

Re: Fosting a recently weaned mama....

Well, our plan right now is to put her and her crate in our laundry room. It's about 6x8 of space, and is off the kitchen. There's a passage door to our bedroom, and we're going to keep that door shut, and baby-gate the door to the kitchen. If we need to swap the gate to the other door because she's...

Fosting a recently weaned mama....

Are there any particular behavior issues that I should be on the look out for with our foster mama? We're going to pick her up today, pups are six weeks old and are being sent to other foster homes, and we are taking her in while her milk dries up, she gets spayed, and hopefully adopted shortly ther...

Re: New and considering pitbulls. Here for the information!

so, we kind of 'went for it' tonight, and volunteered to foster a mama while her milk dries up, she gets spayed and healed up for adoption. She's a pit mix, about 2 years old. We're going to do (to the best of our ability given our household and layout) the 2-week shutdown to give her a chance to ad...

New and considering pitbulls. Here for the information!!

I'm 29, live in MI, and currently have a 9yo lab and 3 children (7, 5, and 1). And a husband of course. ;) We've been talking about adding a second dog, and I'm attracted to the 'people-oriented' personality of pitbulls. Plus, there are a lot of them in the shelters and rescues in our area and I'd r...
