Re: choosing food?

I have never considered raw before. I think because of cost. Are there any reasonably priced raw food diets???

choosing food?

So, I got allergy testing done for my dog and she is allergic to tons of stuff. The company gave a print out of the foods that she is NOT allergic to. This list is VERY small! I want to make sure that the food I choose does NOT have pentobarbital residue in it. But, the foods that are okayed for her...

Re: Pet Insurance

Pet insurance for our pups is so complicated! I've been through quite an ordeal with Trupanion. They declined every claim stating that everything was related to a skin condition (preexisting condition). She was treated for a UTI and they said that it was a skin condition. Then they said my vet could...

Re: Dog Reactive

Graham, send me an email to trainer@mdspca.org - myself or one of the other two trainers will be able to give you a lot of tips and suggestions to help get you started. Thanks Amie. I will e-mail you later today. I am not able to access my e-mail at this time. I would be very appreciative of any ad...

Re: Dogs killed another animal and I'm getting tired of it a

Fence fighting is common DOG behavior, if dogs are allowed the opportunity to run the fence with neighbor dogs.... it has very little to do with the specific breed. I work in a busy vet clinic, and have seen numerous dogs brought in for injuries sustained through fences, the offending dogs are vary...

Re: Dog Reactive

The training log sounds like an excellent idea. We are trying to keep a low profile. Another neighbor got a dog and they hang out on the back porch a lot. Now our "safe haven" for walking has become less safe. We had a close call yesterday (which was completely my stupid fault) and my boyf...

Re: Reactivity advice and MY fear.

I am struggling with the same situation only I have the feeling that my dog is much worse. We tried Prozac as well but it had no effect after 2 months. At that point the medication was discontinued. I live in a condo complex and there are dogs everywhere. We try our best to stay on the down-low. Our...

Re: Dog Reactive

I absolutely do not want to bring her back to the shelter. Someone in our complex wrote the Home Owner's Association complaining about our dog. We received a letter in the mail stating that they were scared of her "demeanor" and were afraid for their safety. We try to keep a low profile. W...

Dog Reactive

I don't know what to do at this point. We've been through trainers and followed everything they have said. But, here we are with our dog who is still extremely reactive when she sees another dog. Our money is spent and this is still a big problem. The last thing I want to do is bring her back to the...

CPDT

I am having a difficult time trying to understand how to become a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT). I have read the handbook and I understand that you need to log 300 hours in canine behavior consulting with customers, shelters, rescues, ect. I'm confused as to how you can do canine behavio...

Re: I need guidance with aggressive behavior.

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this. I am struggling with a dog aggression problem with my dog. She is a single dog in the home. When we go on walks, if she sees another dog, she goes nuts. Her behavior is extreme. 2 dog trainers told me that she was the worst they have ever worked wit...

Re: OFFICIAL e-collar debate thread

Pack animal or not, that wasn't the point of my post. My point was that everyone should be able to speak their opinion. Disagreements are fine. They are a part of life. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. Saying you disagree is fine. But saying it's ridiculous is not fine with me. Currently ...

Re: OFFICIAL e-collar debate thread

"Pack leader" is such a ridiculous term. Why must we insist on dumbing animals down by assuming that they see us as pack leaders? They don't. They see us as resource providers. Withholding resources is a powerful way of communicating that we disprove of certain behaviours without resortin...
