Re: Should we euthanize our pit bulls?

So sorry that you lost a beloved pet. You and your wife must be devastated! I'm sorry you feel the comments on here were harsh but unfortunately even if you and your wife have dog experience, managing a multi-dog, multi-bully home requires extra vigilance. I've learned so much on here about being a ...

Re: Pros/Cons for spaying 8 yr old?

Agree, 8 yo is not that old, and with a knowledgeable anesthetist and proper protocols she'll be fine. My old girl Dolly was not spayed but she was between 15-17 when I adopted her, she lived another 2.5 years and I am still amazed she never got pyo, she would not have survived the surgery I don't ...

Re: Pros/Cons for spaying 8 yr old?

I know two dogs that pyo'd the past 2 weeks, both are now spayed and lucky to still be here. glad your going for the spay Scary! Again thanks everyone for confirming the right thing to do. Uncharted territory for me as I never adopted a senior and never had an intact animal that was older than 6 mos

Re: Pros/Cons for spaying 8 yr old?

1 in 4 dogs will get a pyometra by the age of 10 unless spayed. I don't understand why any vet would say to leave her intact. This would make me question this vets comfort level with senior pet anesthesia and surgery as well, so take care in choosing her surgeon. Yes I don't think he is comfortable...

Re: Pros/Cons for spaying 8 yr old?

Yikes!
Don't want pyometra happening to the old gal!
Definitely will get spayed- seems like the risks of not spaying outweigh the risk of the surgery now while she is healthy- soon as her bloodwork is done

Pros/Cons for spaying 8 yr old?

This incredibly sweet 8 yo female was recently surrendered. My friend is interested in her- and if that doesn't work out she may end up here because she is just sweet as honey- that's her name actually. My vet (who is over 70 yrs old) said not necessary to spay at her age- I have never had an intact...

Re: Shelters: ALTER YOUR DOGS before adopting!

Jack came from a humane society with a voucher. It was a pain to get an appt at the clinic and it only covered $ 50. Before I did take him to be neutered I took him back to the humane society to their vet to redo his rabies because the staff kept looking for it and never found it. said they would ma...

And the vet asked YOU if you had a muzzle for him? I'm just shaking my head.
But anyway sounds like Zane is very lucky to have you.

Re: Can cutting the quick cause infection?

If I try to hold ellie to cut her nails she squirms like crazy. But if i tie her to a deck post with no slack and start with her back paws she stays still. Knowing she can't get away takes all the fight out of her. Maybe worth a try for you.

Re: Costs of raw feeding

Im new to raw and I do the more expensive method of buying cases of preformed patties that are mixed meat bone organs kelp etc. Its $3 a lb and for both dogs its 2 lbs a day total. But im saving on allergy medicine and they both look amazing and act like puppies so its worth it so far. Maybe someday...
