Re: Thyroid fun for everyone.

He's doing OK- I didn't get a chance to pull another sample yet (to send to Dr. Dodds)since work has been INSANE, but I did order the toenail things (compliance on my end will be easier than with booties so hopefully they help!), a calming pheromone collar that smells like old lady to me, and some c...

Re: Hey! Dino's Here :)

Hi! That food might be too rich for an American Bully puppy since they tend to get much bigger than APBTs. I would feed the Diamond puppy food instead, or another brand that has an All Life Stages formula like Taste of the Wild or Canidae, etc. Where does the guy live who bred your puppy & does ...

Re: Thyroid fun for everyone.

Thank you! The vet at work didn't think anything was too alarming. I will get another blood sample and send it to HemoPet for the regular T5. It's $85 + shipping. Plus we'll see what his regular vet thinks. I'm also going to make some no-slip house socks for him to see if that'll help. He mostly sli...

Re: Thyroid fun for everyone.

Thank you! He eats a fish-based diet already but it does have some chicken & beef in it since he gets treats at work. ;) I got the fax this AM but haven't talked about it with the vet yet. His Free T4 ng/dL was 1.0 and the Free T4 pmol/L was 12.9. These were within the Idexx range though on the ...

Re: Thyroid fun for everyone.

The Hemopet Plus includes a lot of duplicate labs so I'll have to figure out which one best fits for us. Anyway today we're about to head to work and I'll get his samples for the Senior Screen & Free T4 tests. Included are: Comprehensive CBC, T4, urinalysis, anion gap, CK, GGT, TCO2 (bicarbonate...

Re: Thyroid fun for everyone.

I've never seen those before! I will definitely keep them in mind. He *has gotten more likely to slip as he's gotten older but it never freaked him out or scared him before. At work he still voluntarily zooms & plays some days on the slick polished/sealed concrete floors. We'll see, hopefully th...

Thyroid fun for everyone.

I'm hoping Booker is hypothyroid. He's gotten some new quirky fears that are really heartbreaking for me. In just the last 2-3 months he decided one hallway was scary. I figured it was slippery hardwood floors + a heat register on the floor, so I put down a doormat, and more recently, a no-slip carp...

Oh no!
:(

I hope the antibiotics work ASAP. This is awful. You're all in my thoughts. Are IV antibiotics or injectables an option?

Come ON Oscar. You and your mom have tons of support & love.

Re: Socks is having issues

:( Wishing you both all the best & fingers crossed. How scary. My vet did say that in addition to steroids that some dogs with back issues can respond really well to other treatments like chiropractic care. Just an idea. I remember Socks; he's a really handsome and clearly beloved guy. I'm reall...

Re: 1st time owner!

Welcome from the East Bay!

You'll have to take lots of pictures of Kona-- I predict that his ears will do all kinds of fun things while he's teething. He may even have an "ear hat" phase! Soooo cute and ridiculously awesome to see floppy puppy ears. :)

Re: Mast Cell Tumors : Lessons Learned

I remember Horace! Fingers crossed for something totally benign. If it is reassuring at all-- B had two bumps that my vet aspirated & found mast cells, diagnosed them as MCTs. I freaked out & went to a veterinary oncologist. They were benign epithelial cell tumors. Yup. Skin lumps. So anythi...

Re: neutering with a heart murmur.

Yes, I'd personally wait as well if he were my dog, and see the cardiologist. Especially since he's a male vs female; good point there. I was just saying that all of our neuters that we've done on shelter dogs with murmurs have been OK. Now, not all speuters/anesthesia on all animals has gone in per...
