Re: I'm back

Nice to see you back here! Maximus was always a favorite of mine... Apollo is a handsome young fellow, and I look forward to hearing more about him.

interesting article on the effects of spay/neuter

Here is a good article about the long term effects of spay and neuter on dogs. http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2016/07/27/neutering-spaying-effects.aspx?utm_source=petsnl&utm_medium=email&utm_content=art1&utm_campaign=20160727Z1&et_cid=DM112154&et_rid=159...

Re: Not so new from NJ

Maryellen! How nice to see you on here again, it's been a long time.... Glad to hear you are doing well and that things are going well for you. Sometimes a change is the best thing. Rufus is such a good dog, I am happy he is still around, and Sadie is lovely. And the chickens are pretty neat too. I ...

Re: Excessive drooling

I don't know... I'd be worried over those symptoms. I am not one to take a dog to the vet for nothing but if this drooling started on Thursday and is still going on, I would take her to the vet. Things that came to mind are... something stuck in her teeth or way back in her jaw hinge, possible poiso...

Re: choosing food?

Raw does not have to be expensive... I did my own raw diet from using grocery store chicken thighs and it cost me right about $1 a pound which was actually less than a premium kibble. I prefer to make my own raw as then I know exactly what is in it. Most of the pre-made raw pet diets are expensive a...

Re: choosing food?

Have you considered feeding raw? Raw is one of the best ways to feed a dog and I think it is why my 14 yr old dog is still alive, as she cannot eat chicken, beef, nor rice. You might also read this thread as it has good info -- http://www.pitbullforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=158228" onclick="win...

Re: Building up my rescue dog's immune system

Salmon oil is great for dogs. I have bought it on ebay and Amazon but those places can be expensive. You would want Wild Alaskan Salmon oil that is the best one. I buy it from a trapping place and it is the Wild Alaskan Salmon oil at a great price. My old dog gets about 4 tablespoons a day and it ha...

Re: Mosquitos = My poor Chloe and Keyser!

I was told that the Avon Skin so Soft product works well for repelling mosquitoes. It is really oily so I have not used it so you might not want oily doggies! Maybe mixing up some apple cider vinegar with water in a spray bottle and spray them lightly with that when they go out? That won't hurt anyt...

Re: Building up my rescue dog's immune system

There are lots of different strains of kennel cough and the vaccine does not cover all of them. For a healthy dog, kennel cough is not usually a big deal, it is more like a minor cold in people. Feeding a good food and adding salmon oil will help your dog's immune system. Most young dogs are pretty ...

Re: Past-date kibble

Boxed mac & cheese? 6 months, a year? But the length varies based on the type of food, how it's processed, preserved, and stored. I assume. Yes I think a lot of it is common sense... Some types of food will spoil much quicker than others. I have cooked and eaten the dried mac & cheese that ...

Re: Need some help.

A photo would be helpful if you can post one...

Could be an allergy, could be bug bites, could be a number of things. Tea Tree Oil is useful and might help. Or Neosporin. If it is only one spot and not bothering her or getting worse or spending, you might wait and see if it goes away.
