Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I fear that constant supervision might be the only way, although the vet has suggested giving him more acepromazine, as his body might have become used to it. I think I'll give that a try too. I think Pete would definately be the dog to loose his mind and hurt hi...

Recovering from TPLO surgery

Hello All, I haven't posted on this forum in over a year, but have been a member here for years. The forum is great, but life gets crazy sometimes. I'm posting because my dog Pete had TPLO surgery last week to repair a torn cruciate ligament. My biggest issue so far (although I know there will be mo...

I give my dog a bath my dog 2 -4 times a months in the winter (think Oregon mud!) and once a month in the summer ( before a needed flea treatment.) Of course rolling in stinky stuff change things especially when your dog sleeps with his head on your pillow. Skin problems and other variables can alte...

FYI Lanacane is not the same thing as Betadine. Lanacane is used to numb up or alleviate painful areas. Betadine is an antibacterial liquid often used to scrub out wounds etc. If your dog has red bumps and pus it is most certainly a staph infection, (possibly caused by an allergy). This is easily tr...

Peanut butter makes my dog very sick too. It could be additives or it might just be the fat content. Pete has a very sensitive tummy though. I stuff kongs with high quality canned dog food and then freeze it. He'll work on that for a very good long time. Glad your pup is feeling better. Nothing wors...

My Thor was a very long necked, long muzzled dog. He had AMAZING stamina when he was younger and yet he would snort like a crazy pig when he was happy. He did this until a few days before he died. For him it had nothing to do with shortness of breath, it was more of an expression of love. He would r...

I'm so glad Xanny is doing better. . . there's nothing more anxiety producing that worrying if your dog will pull through. I think stealing toys is a very good sign. I think I need your vet, Pete's surgery (with after care and a few complications was $2500). I think you got a really good deal!! He w...

Yikes Leslie that sucks. I just went through a full obstruction surgery with Pete last month and it's amazing how quickly they recover. He even had a few complications and is now good as new.

Lets hope Xanny will be up and running around soon.

I agree about the solid gold sea meal. It makes all the difference in keeping my dog's coat healthy (free from allergic reactions) and his colitis under control!

My litter box is on a counter in the garage. I have found no other way of making the dogs stop feasting on it. It is a truely gross phenomenon! :yucky: with prevention being the only cure!

I ended up giving Pete less than the vet said was the maximum dosage because on the full 36mg dose (he's about 60 lbs.) he was zonked out so hard I was worried, but he was also post operative and pretty weak from that. 25mg seemed to do the trick. Here's hoping your dog has a good reaction!!! :thumb...

Solid Gold Hund n flocken has been the only food that my dog does well on. I love the stuff! I have fed him many high end foods and it is the only food that his keeps his colitis and skin problems in check. There may be better foods out there, but he has done terrific on this food. I also give him t...

I gave Pete oral acepromazine to keep him quiet while he was recovering from surgery and it worked very well. He was positively knocked out from it.

This is a pretty common drug given to dogs for traveling and what not. Good luck to you on the ride!

At about 4 months my Pete had one of his baby teeth die from bonking his mouth while playing. It caused him a lot of pain (whining and crying when anyone handled his mouth). The tooth ended up needing to be extracted (and he had to have antibiotics). I ended up having him neutered at the same time a...

I've had strep many a time around the dogs and they have never gotten it. I don't think it is something we can give to our animals.

Hope you're feeling better soon. Few things more miserable than a bad case of strep!
