Maybe you guys want your rights taken away, but I don't. (and I've worked in a shelter before and I work in rescue. Animals end up there because people don't care - most frequent excuse heard is moving. Laws aren't going to make people care.)

Thanks Teflon for the offer, but FOHA won't transport animals. (Except in special cases, like they might do for the blind Bloodhound we have who has liver problems - they were talking of contacting Bloodhound rescue, because he really needs a foster home). FOHA's adoption procedure goes like this: C...

Matt - a repost

I am reposting Matt, a wonderful older pittie we have here at http://www.foha.org because my previous post had some faulty information. I have since learned his true story. Matt is 6 1/2 years old, and was kept chained to a doghouse with minimal interaction for the first six years of his life. Matt ...

I think I might go over there today *checks hours on website* yep they are open till 5. I've been wanting to talk to them about volunteering a little over there. I already volunteer at a rescue, but I'm gonna have some time this semester during the week, and they ARE only 15 minutes away. I'll just ...

Wow this dog is 15 minutes from my house! We got a kitty from there a few months ago, they seem like a good place. Are they limited intake? When my mom picked up our cat after his neutering there was a sign that said they were full and not taking any owner surrenders. Good luck with that cutie. (and...

Does anyone know the percentage of dogs that are adopted and returned?

For the no-kill shelter I volunteer at, I would hazard to guess around 10%

Swoosie - Northern VA/MD/DC area

Meet Swoosie! She was pulled from a kill shelter before her time was up, and it appears that she's had pups before. She is quite the mushball with people. Her intake sheet claims that she is good with other dogs, however when I had her in the play area and other dogs walked by on the outside, she ba...

I know how you feel. We just had an older dog returned to us because they got a divorce and the wife was moving in with her parents who already had two dogs (and this dog - a sheltie mix- gets along well with other dogs). I was looking at the paper last Friday that features shelter dogs and they had...

Bill will allow BSL in Washington D.C.

We can't let this pass!! [quote]Good Dogs Don't Deserve Bad Dog Laws Neither do their owners. But that's what they're about to get unless we ACT today. The ( Washington ) D.C. City Council Health Committee has silently approved a bill that threatens your dog's security and your ability to peaceably ...

Sweet - I didn't know they were that selective. I did know there are no pittie rescues they work with but they work with other breed specific rescues. I will try and find out what the deal is with that. Thanks, let me know how that goes! That sucks that you were outvoted, but we can try harder next...
