In what breeds does the merle coat show up in? Some of the breeds I know of that can have a merle coat are Catahoula Leopard Dogs, Great Danes, and Australian Shepherds. I think this sounds like a scam. I could see asking people for help because the dog was injured and needed surgery/medication/whatever that this person couldn't afford (I'd still be weary of it, though), but asking for help to pay off vet bills after the dog died? Oh, and this will probably be moved...
