Re: Why do you feed the food you do?

absolutely. i started out feeding chicken leg quarters, then added pork hocks/feet, ground beef mix (my butcher does a mix for dogs), fish (salmon and lake smelt), and turkey. it took a long time to work up to all of those, and we stuck with that for quite a while. but then i started to get adventur...

Re: Raw feeding books/sites

if you're looking for a good book, i'd reccommend Dr. Tom Lonsdale's book "Work Wonders: Feed Your Dog Raw Meaty Bones". it's pretty cheap on amazon.

Re: Why do you feed the food you do?

I think if I could do it properly (ie. not give my dog salmonella) and could stomach it, I would feed my dog raw. I just need to do more research as to how to make sure it's properly balanced. salmonella's never been a concern to me. i'd definately be more likely to get it than my dog, and so far w...

Re: Why do you feed the food you do?

I feed raw. Prey model raw to be more specific (no grains/veggies). Why? Because after almost 3yrs of trying different kibbles including Wellness, TOTW, Innova EVO, Canidae, etc. I couldn't find something that agreed with my Boston's stomach. Not to mention her teeth were pretty nasty by the age of...

Re: B.A.R.F. 101

for anyone else who feeds whole prey, do you ever have issues with... umm.... furballs? maggie was chewing on a deer leg recently, and it had fur. she took to it like a trooper and just munched right through it. i was pretty proud of that because she's never had anything with fur before. BUT, the ne...

Re: Examples of BARF/RAW menus

i use the same method as ProudMommy77. i've been feeding raw for long enough now that i feed what i've got, and portions that work with my dogs activity level. usually, it's a mix of chicken, pork, beef, and turkey. but right now, it's deer! i scored a frezer full of deer last week, so maggie will b...

Re: Contact allergies.

i've heard of people using baby wipes for their dogs feet when they come in from the grass. if it's safe for babies it's gotta be pretty gentle :dunno: if my dog walks into long grass, or brushes up against it, she instantly breaks out in hives. i don't wipe her down, i just keep her out of the gras...

Re: At what point should I start to really worry

The liver is about the size of a quarter. I also have chicken hearts that I can give them instead of the liver & chicken gizzards.. but the gizzards are considered muscle not organ right? They are getting about 1 pound a day. The goat meat has no bone. Should I maybe take the chicken off the bo...

Re: At what point should I start to really worry

how big is a 'small piece' of liver? are they getting (or going to get) any other organ meat? I also have bagged up for them, chicken backs, chicken necks, turkey wing, turkey neck, goat meet, and pork neckbone. careful with portions! a number of those items are VERY bone-heavy. acctually, they're a...

Re: Emmett has TPLO surgery on Friday July 30th

looks like he's doing great :) did you have any issues with the staples? my dog had stitches for her first knee, and staples for her second one (both TPLO). she seemed to do better with the stitches :dunno: for a comparison, this was my dog, maggie, 17 days post-op when she had her first (right) kne...

Re: B.A.R.F. 101

So now for my question, a natural supermarket by me has these great selections of meats for great prices, and they have these huge Picnic Roasts for 1.59/pound. I picked up a big 10 pound roast because I want to start feeding Leo other things. Just feeding Chicken/Turkey right now for his main meat...

Re: Limping on previously repaired knee

hopefully it's just a strain, but it's possible that the tightrope "pulled through" it's anchor point. i wouldn't say it's a common problem, but i've heard it happen before. maggie had TPLO on both her knees, but even then she'd have the occasional limpy/sore day if she overdid it. eventua...
