Re: Has your dog ever donated blood?

Ruadh was used for trsnfusions several times in emergencies. I would have gotten him into the UF program since I worked there but by then he was too old. It is a great program and believe me, if the neck sticks are too much for a dog they just won't use them. Mostly the dogs just lay there and wag t...

Re: shots

A so-called 5 in 1 is likely distemper, adenovirus 1 & 2, parainfluenza, & parvovirus. Ideally you would have this booster done at about 3 wks after the first inoculation; if there has been a long lapse since your vet may booster her twice to be sure your bases are covered, but at 6 months h...

Re: Just got our boy neutered.

Scrotal ablations aren't that common in my experience; I've only had vets do them if there was a complication, otherwise it's just cosmetic. The incision for castration is actually very, very low on the abdomen, so there's no need to cut into the scrotum itself. To the OP, adult dogs are often a lit...

Re: The vet almost killed Ivy yesterday.

Just reading through what you've posted, it looks as if everything was pretty standard as far as Ivy's care. Sometimes bad things happen to good dogs. I haven't seen the chart so I couldn't say for sure. I am thinking though, if you signed a surgical consent form, the bit about complications is usua...

Re: **I need help**

Make sure you don't put any identifying info in your ads. I would just say "found puppy" with a general location and make the owners tell you what they are looking for. I go/recommend these routes: I make a flyer for AC, for all the local shelters, fire departments (lots of peop...

Re: teeth

It can be. Sometimes dogs don't develop the full set and missing that are naturally missing often occur bilaterally. Sometimes dogs will have extras, known as supernumerary teeth, typically not problematic unless they cause crowding. With missing teeth, sometimes they are there and never erupt, whic...

Re: Kidney diet for Ruadh

I'm not really that stressed about it, just my sense of humor and irony at work (I'll go in the kitchen for the dog, but not for me or any other human). lol I do appreciate the input, but I'm really happy with this particular vet's advice and care so far and don't feel her suggestions would be detri...
