This was what really stuck out most to me. I like my dogs to like what they are doing. That dog only seemed to like it when it was over.

ProudMommy77 wrote:the traditional weight pull dogs were fuzz butts. I think a lot of people dismiss them because of the bull breeds being a go to now, but honestly there are some serious fuzz butts out there pulling.

I immediately thought of Jack London's "Call of the Wild". There's a pull scene.

Re: Schutzhund and Bite Work ~ your thoughts

Shanda- I got the point about the weigth pull and non traditional breeds, same could be said for dock dogs and non traditional breeds or Lure coursing with non traditional breeds. . Exactly! That's why I brought it up...it invalidates the argument of "they're not bred for it." They're not...

Re: Schutzhund and Bite Work ~ your thoughts

And still, no one comprehends the point I was trying to make... I do darling. This conversation is no different then talking weight pull, you have traditional breeds, and your non traditional breeds.  Errps. I had my window open with my reply and got up for a few, so I never saw th...

Re: Schutzhund and Bite Work ~ your thoughts

You are right Shanda. I apologize. I'm just an ignorant supporter of BSL. Who am I to question, challenge or try to learn anything from the know it alls concerning pit bulls. Later guys. Been really interesting. Thanks. My comment was not directed at you in particular, shame you took it as such. An...

Re: Schutzhund and Bite Work ~ your thoughts

As to the "they were never bred for this" argument, the first thing I thought of was weight pull. To my knowledge, and I could be wrong, APBTs were not historically drafting or freight dogs. But now they are a go-to breed for competitive pulling that focuses on power vs endurance. l Since...

Re: Schutzhund and Bite Work ~ your thoughts

That wasn't the point of the thread at all. The point was the suitability of the APBT in any sports involving biting and the public perception of.

Re: Schutzhund and Bite Work ~ your thoughts

Something that keeps coming back to my thoughts is the JPQ aspect. As mentioned, most people have no Idea what Sch or ring sports or what-have-you are, even people in other segments of the dog world. Also, JPQ also have a mostly skewered idea of dog ownership in general. For the average dog owner, t...

Re: Conditioning games

I am using physical therapy equipment for Bowie to help him develop really specific muscle memory and dexterity. I also do silly stuff like wheelbarrow him and make him sit pretty to work his core. I learned a lot of therapeutic and sports rehab tricks at one if my jobs so I just started turning the...

Re: Schutzhund and Bite Work ~ your thoughts

If you're talking about game bred dogs or dogs that excel in weight pulling or other traditional aspects and endeavors of APBT's, I don't see how that correlates to an inherent suitability for schutzhund since again, the APBT is not a guardian or protection breed. The part that worries me about thi...

Re: Schutzhund and Bite Work ~ your thoughts

Years ago when I worked closely with a particular trainer/pit bull rescuer I also did not think our breed had a place in other sort of sport where K9 mouths and human bodies would meet. I was relying on her words alone. I really thought of it as a machismo thing and had a low opinion of it in genera...

Not completely, Val. You made her immortal. I know I have the image of a strong, beautiful, and loved bulldog imprinted in my mind forever, and I'm sure others do as well.

Rest well, Tigger.
