Holly in Gainesville, FL

I'm posting this as a favor to some kind people in the Shelter Medicine unit at the UF Vet College. I have met Holly and I think she could be a great pet for someone! Please feel free to PM me with any questions you might have, if I don't know the answer I will get it for you. "Holly is a very ...

Re: Broken K9..advice...

I completely concur with Erin, just have 'em take the tooth. A tooth broken into the pulp chamber will not heal, risks infectinon, and is VERY painful, Red's just a tough cookie. The only time we would do anything to salvage a tooth in that scenario is for a working K9, because of their status as in...

Re: kambria is looking skinny

Pups go through "gangly" phases as they grow, but if you are concerned about her body condition, I would schedule a vet visit. Also, pics might help, as your idea of skinny and mine may not be the same.

Re: Tivoli

Wow, he tugs my heartstrings, not only because of his story but because he so resembles my Ruadh in his expressions and his body language, the videos made me choke. I hope his forever family finds him soon! :crybaby: :inlove:

Re: Music soothes the savage beast?

I keep the radio on not so much as a soother but as a noise filter. The dogs tend to bark less when they don't hear every tiny sound outside. I may have to change the station, though. It's NPR, and I'm a little tired of Ruadh & Fergus trying to debate me on universal healthcare and supreme court...

I wonder if tonight I can put warm compresses on the under half of his neck, not on the actual scabs/lump? Obviously I know right where E-vet is but I don't think it's dire; maybe some extra bloodflow thanks to warm compresses will help reduce the mushyneck? It can't hurt and it might feel nice. Ki...

HOLY WTF? This was mishandled in multiple spots. Definitely demand answers. I would also take my records after I get those answers and seek more organized, communicative care elsewhere. I understand your nervousness...I just found a lump on Ruadh that made my stomach swoop to my feet last night whil...

I'd still ask about a Cushing's test...it causes wasting of the muscles. It also causes changes to the bloodwork (elevated ALP), excessive thirst and subsequent urination, panting and weight gain... and without those clinical signs even if she had cushings the treatment is as dangerous as the disea...

This is good timing, I was just investigating different insurances. I'd already eliminated VPI because of so many of my clients that hate them but was interested in this company (same founder though). A tech at work told me of a report she read about the fact that owners who get pet insurance actual...

Super news! After much begging and pleading (and pestering, cajoling, and yes, big fat shiny tears), Ruadh will get to underwater treadmill! It's still going to cost me a pretty penny, but not the arm and leg it was before. He starts Tuesday. I think I may have made one person flat out hate my guts ...

There is an underwater treadmill at work but I just can't afford it as it's crazy expensive, a month of sessions cost two-thirds of my rent! Ask if you can work him on your own time after hours for a fraction of the cost... I did and was refused. I feel like my options of the university are at an e...

I would get labwork (including thyroid and urinalysis) plus or minus x-rays done immediately. All that and then some has been done routinely, most recently at the end of April. On paper he's a two year-old. And he feels great, no changes in anything but his size. I was just curious about muscle bui...

Senior dog wasting

So Ruadh is pushing 11 and starting to really look and feel his age. It seems so sudden! He's been screened for you-name-it regularly and as recently as two weeks ago, and his labs look great. He is pretty arthritic but manages well on meds and supplements. My biggest concern is that's he's wasting ...

Well, damn, people are weird. Eva has had four apps on her, one of which never resurfaced after I let her know she left the landlord info blank, one of which is a family trying to have a baby (why the fizzle would you get a puppy when you're trying to have a baby??) and two who were really great fit...
